Water running like this:

Usually means this:

The Spillway behind the Dr Pepper Bottling Co. in Irving, between 183 and 482.

Hooked at least 3 more, and at least one of those was a HUGE to MASSIVE Hybrid, but in that fast water, they can be tricky to land!

All fish caught on 2 of my three favorite lures for this type of water: A Rooster Tail wannabe from Academy, and the 3 inch curly tail grub, chartreuse, impaled on 1/8th oz UNPAINTED jig heads. 2 Sandies and a nice blue cat. I know more fish are there to be caught, because in that white, foamy, boiling water in the lower center of the spillway pic, I could see em, LOTS of fish, all kinds, sandies, hybrids, carp, buffalo, drum, cats and god knows what else, BIG ones, being thrashed about in there! In fact, one fish, an 8-10 lb Buffalo, was thrown about 5-7 ft UP ON THE DRY CONCRETE, by the force of the water! He slid back in, Jumped, and swam INTO the roughest water there!

Truly sweet fishing spot when it runs like this!

Rudy

Nice fish! I should get back out there while the LL gates are open.

I'd have to say...that's no where near Full Throttle, though...I've seen it when LL is releasing over 6000cfps...it is CRAZY.

Right now they're doing just over 1000cfps I think. Great time to fish it.

I saw a HUGE flathead cruising around this morning right in the white foam. Also saw some rather large common carp flying throught the air like salmon going up a waterfall!

In a little less than an hour, i managed to land 4 sandies, one flipped back into the water as i was trying to take his picture, and hand one SOLID thump that doubled my rod over, and GOT SPOOLED, BUT DID NOT BREAK THE LINE, SPIT THE GRUB OUT, by a MASSIVE Hybrid striper! Damn, in this place the ones you miss are more fun than the ones you land!

Here's the 3 that will stink some grease for lunch!

All were caught on a 3 inch Chartreuse curly tail grub, impaled on a 1/8th oz UNPAINTED jig head, fished on 10 lb test, on a medium action 6 ft spinning rig.

May go back this evening for more!

Water Level dropping dramatically. went back around 6:30 PM and it was not near the turbulent mess it had been since Thursday. Other downer: Must have been 20 people there, kids and all, and no one was fishing when i got there but i saw cast nets and big landing nets in the parking area, next to ice chests. All sitting around, beers in hand, just talking, peaceable enough, but i am sure they were gonna leave all their trash up on the area where they parked.

Scary thing was, all adults up in the parking area, and at least 2 kids IN THE WATER! Granted water was nowhere near as rough as in past few days, but there is still potential for under tow, and that CAN BE DEADLY!!

Further downstream, an ATV was mudding around in the middle of th rapidly dropping channel. One adult and at least 4 kids perched in every available space! Looked pretty dangerous to me for the kids hanging on the edges!!!

Is there no level stupidity will not sink to?

Rudy

Well...stupid parents lead to stupid kids...so maybe darwin is at work here unfortunatly.
But just let one of those kids who's parents allowed them to swim in those conditions get swept away and suddenly it is the City/engineers/everybody in the area/everybodys fault but the parents.

I've never fished this type water in TX. Used to do it in Kansas years ago. Now I mainly work mid cities ponds for bass. Anybody care to give me tips on what to catch/baits/lures etc. Would be appreciated. I'm thinking seriously of running over there today. thnaks

Evidently someone decided to walk in from the I-35 side. he was sitting under the tree with the water thundering past him. GET THIS: He was fishing with line spooling off coke bottles, he threw a cast net in, got a few shad, and hurled the lines out into the turbulence! When I left at 4:30, he had 4 nice looking, rather fat sandies, one either hybrid or drum(he was on opposite side of river from me, and what looked like one NICE blue cat on the stringer!

I on the other hand, fishing the Irving side, throwing slabs and curly tail grubs, had ZILCHO! Did have one hammer my grub and try to spool me before he spit the hook! Have no idea what it was, but, doggone it, Sometimes in this spot, what you hook and lose is more fun to fight than the ones you land!

Water was still running pretty high this morning. Are the gates going into the dam area open 7/24? Although the gates were open, I noticed a "no entry" sign on the backside of the gate.

Ok, I have fished Tuttle creek and just about all the other big lakes in kansas at one point in time anyway. My home town was Parsons, but ended up the past 30 some years in Wichita. I usually end up going back home to fish the Neosho river.
