Well guys, im going to venture out and try fishing with some boilies and need a little guidance. Should i start with 20mm or 16mm? What flavors have had the best results? I was also going to get some k-1 flavors to flavor my maize, any suggestions on which one?

I like to buy the 20-mm boilies and sand them down to 19 mm.

boilie size is pretty much a personal choice as well as flavors. I have caught well with k1 stuff, but have caught more with solar boilies. I caught my previous pb with some custom made scopex boilies using lone star base mix made by bigcarptackle. Everyone is going to say their boilies are the best, but if you bait properly you can catch fish on a glass bead. As far as sizes go, I like 14mm if making a snowman , and 20-24mm for single baits. As far as flavors go I personally like the flavors from the bait stop for flavoring maize. KC caught the new state record carp using my flavored maize and method mix/packabait that I made with bait stop flavors. Keep in mind that summertime the fish are feeding heavy and 95% of your fish will caught on maize or tiger nuts so boilies won't get used as much until fall when the fish are looking for high protein foods to bulk up for the winter. I'd personally just get a kilo of pineapple boiles and a jar of pineapple popups and you will be good until fall. Get a variety of flavors from the baitstop and you can get boilies there as well and you will be set. http://www.thebaitstop.com

Thanks alot Scott for the advice, the bait stop looks to have a wide variety of baits. I guess ill hold off on the boilies until fall and just keep using my maize and get some flavoring for it, and possible some method mixes.

I would'nt spend cash on a method mix, its pretty easy to make. Trying different things and customizing it is fun. you should give it a shot. and you can also flavor your own maize using corn syrup, vanilla extract, hershey's strawberry syrup. all kinds of fun stuff. gl bud

OK. I can't stand it any longer. You guys have my attention and this carp fishing sounds like a blast. I know nothing about it but maybe yall would be kind enough to answer a few questions such as: How do you fish with maize? Its too small to put on a hook. I have heard garbonzo beans were good carp bait-do you need to soak them in water till they are soft-or not? How deep will carp typically be in the next few weeks? Thanks for any feedback!

How do you fish with maize? Its too small to put on a hook. I have heard garbonzo beans were good carp bait-do you need to soak them in water till they are soft-or not? The best, quickest carp bait is sweet corn from a can. You can chum with it and put two or three kernels on your hook. Maize is larger than sweet corn, but it's too hard to thread on a hook when dry. Soak some maize in a bucket for a day or two, bring it to a boil, add some sweetener or salt or not, and boil it for an hour or so till it softens and a few kernels begin to split. Even softened, though, maize often splits when put on a hook, so try a hair rig (Google the term) and a size-6 hook.

You can start out with small hooks (like crapie flounder size or even smaller) one peice of sweet corn (cheapest ones in walmart) With some quick oats and water mushed up on your one ounce sinker. Throw some sweet corn mixed with oatmeal pack bait 20 feet from shore (they arent very deep where i have been fishing) then cast to it and wait for a wild ride. Also watch for the swirls and crashes carp are not very subtle and you can usually se where they are at. Fishing is all about depth no matter you are fishing for you find the right depth you find the fish.

I've done well with the Tres Flores Opal and Scopex flavors... both maize and boilies. I use smaller (12-14mm) boilies, but I'm not an expert, either. K-1 has good stuff, as do most of the manufacturers. I like to support the US sellers, though.

Sorry, I thought it was a carp. It was actually a small mouth Buffalo. We'll keep trying for that first carp!

Thank-you! All Bait products from K-1 BAITS are manufactured in the USA. We also have our very own Terminal Tackle brand called the "End Zone Range" which has been featured internationally as a quality brand. These and our baits can be bought online or at the specialist retailers up, down and across the country. Shipping is simply necessary if you buy online but we have done everything possible to ensure you pay what it costs. Most orders are shipped within 24 hours and as usual our customer service is second to none. I'm pretty accessible if need anything specific, Hope that helps and Good Luck guys.
