I was told at lake Fork Friday that there is a new lake in the making some where around Mt. Pleasant, that will be around 70,000 acres. Any truth to this ?

I did hear from a guy at the water district that there were plans for a new lake over that way, not sure about size or anything.
That has been a while, things may have changed by now.

It would be Marvin Nichols Reservoir (70,000+ acres) but it's facing a lot of opposition from conservation groups and land owners.

I think it's locked up in a political battle and is on the shelf for now.

The main purpose of the lake, from the way I understand it, would be as a water source for the DFW Area.
From what I understand this lake is still a possibility, however there are a lot of folks against it and there is a chance it may not come about and has been pushed to the back burner to some degree.
While I would like a new lake to fish, I am not sold on the need for the lake. I think there are other more cost effective and reasonable options available, before this is needed.
One being, folks should conserve more and another is holding lakes at a higher level, along with increasing the capacity of a few. Then once these things are done and if it is still found there is a legitimate need for a new lake, I think you will find more folks become a little more comfortable with the idea. Before that, I don't like the idea of telling one group they have to suffer, just so another group can continue to use as they please and more than they need in many cases.

I live a little south of the proposed area for Nichols Resivior & the opposition around here is strong, there is some good hunting land they are talking about impounding and I know some families who own some of that land thay aint goin down without a fight. Dallas needs to get a responsible water usage policy and the need for a new lake wouldnt exist.

I understand the gripe about DFW and water usage. But I never hear about all the GREEN LAWNS around the area lakes and the water Systems that run during DROUGHT Seasons. When I go to Cedar Creek I never see A Dead Grass Lawn.It Cost what $75-$100 a year to use all the Water you need? You want conservation start with your own LandOwners.

I've heard a group is currently in the process of making that bottomland a national wildlife refuge. If that happens they won't be allowed to build that lake, otherwise its probably gonna get built down the road.

Why don't they dig out the silt in the area lakes when we are in a drought. I've never understood why they would not do this. Yes it will cost to get drag nets, dump trucks, places to dump, but it would increase the volumne of a lake without increasing the suface area. Anyone know the answer?
