No fish here. I think as soon as the stock it, the undesirables are out there with their coolers taking 25-50 fish at a time using about 6 poles a piece. What side of the pond do you usually catch the cats from?

I caught a few on the south side, by the shack for the fountain pump.. I went one week, and there were 2 guys fishing, had about 8 kids with them.. and had 2 or 3 stringers FULL!!!!! They need to get someone out there to stop them. Myself and a few other guys said some stuff to them, but they didn't care.. they were catching on the east side of the little fishing pier. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have licenses either..

I may be mistaken but I don't think they stock it during the month of August. In the winter months, they stock it with rainbow trout, but they're very small. I gutted one last winter and found a cigarette butt in its stomach, so maybe that's the secret bait!

Yup, I've seen the same thing. They'll go to their vehicles a few times with a full bucket and return with an empty one. As for fishing it, I prefer the south side.

Speaking of the undesireables, where do you think all the fish come from at the SUPER BUFFETT restaurants? At our lakes and our fishing license money, they sure dont have one.

I prefer the south side also. My girlfriend and I went last night, but didn't get there until 9. She caught 2, and I caught 1. They were all pretty small, no more than 12 inches, if that. We had fun, for the short time that we had. I have yet to get skunked there.

I have only caught some small ones on that side. I have seen some people pull out some nice size catfish by the pier and beyond.

I caught some big ones on the south side too. I have also fished on the east side and have done good. I usually catch 2 or 3 each time I go. My girlfriend seems to have better luck than I do LOL

I took my girlfriend's son with me last night and he caught his very first fish last night. It was a little one, but he was stoked! He had tons of bites, but was only able to reel the one in. I caught 2 also. I think he's hooked. I want to take him to catch some bigger ones soon!

It was stocked Monday, and Everybody, their brothers, and their kids were out there Monday night. My girlfriend, best friend and I managed to catch some decent ones still. My girlfriend managed a 22" maybe 5#.. Went again last night and it wasn't as busy. We only managed to catch some nuggets.. nothing worth keeping, but it was still fun!

I took my son out Friday, didn't have much luck, but didn't stay long either due to his short attention span. I am going to take him back out one day this next week. They have the dates it is stocked on the city web page

This is on the web page (http://www.ci.hurst.tx.us/departments/Recreation/index.htm):
2009 Neighborhood Fishing Program - Catfish Stocking
The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s Inland Fisheries Office in Fort Worth announces the upcoming stockings of trout into Chisholm Park in Hurst. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department‘s Inland Fisheries Division is in the sixth year of an urban fishing program research project. Trout are stocked throughout the winter, starting in December and ending March. Catfish are stocked starting in April and ending in October. A Freshwater Fishing License is Required For Anglers 17 Years Old and Older (unless born before Sept 1, 1930). Anglers are reminded that the Community Fishing Lake [CFL] daily bag limit is 5 fish/day. (Fish species identification chart) There is no minimum length regulation on channel catfish in CFL’s. Stocking dates are subject to change because of weather and fish availability.
Trout will be stocked during the week of: April 20, May 4, May 18, June 1, June 15, June 29, July 13, July 27, Sept 1, Sept 14, Sept 28, Oct 12, Oct 26. Each stocking consists of approximately 237 fish. No stocking is done in August due to water quality.

Note: Beginning September 1, 2008, a new regulation was implemented on community fishing lakes which includes Chisholm Park. Anglers are allowed no more than 2 poles while fishing at these sights. This is to help prevent over harvest and increase the bank access for anglers.

Here's from either last Friday, or the week before at Chisholm Park, but they aren't the biggest catfish ever, but man they're a bunch of fun. Plus it's relaxing to go out there and sit and fish. But we usually get 2 or 3 like this each time we go. We catch between 6 and 8, but the others are so small... just lettin' em go!
Oh and by the way.. she always catches the biggest one of the group. Never fails!

Saw some guy out there tonight by the fountain. He was catching them one after another. I walked by him when he was baiting, just to move spots, and he stopped while I passed. I guess its a big secret. HAHA....

Saw some older guy go up to him and talk to him and he just blew him off...some people.

I am thinking about going out there with the little one tonight, since no power still at the house as of 3:30 this afternoon.

Anyone been out there recently? I know they won't stock until monday so may not really be great fishing out there. Now I wonder why they don't do this before the weekend... instead of right after it.

I fished out there today with my son from about 7:30 AM till 12:30 PM and had only one bite the entire time. I alternated between DK punch bait and hot dogs, with the hot dog giving the only bite. Finally we used some extra rods to catch panfish for a while, which there is an abundance of in that pond. Three catfish total were caught by others fishing there, mostly earlier in the morning. I'm guessing that this place is overfished and it would be a wise idea to only fish there in the days following it being stocked.

I'm guessing that they stock in earlier in the day on Mondays, but I'm not really sure. I remember someone here saying that they actually stocked it on Thursdays, but I have no idea which of the two days it actually is. I think I might try my luck out there again on Monday evening.

They stock it on Monday. I went out there last Wednesday and Thursday and tore them up. I will definately be out there tomorrow afternoon with my camo folding chair. They usually stock in the afternoon. Its the last of 3 ponds that the truck stops at.I use DK blood and garlic punchbait and always do well.

Isaw one last year that was about 8lbs or so. I just take my bass rods out there. Sometimes I will take my spinning rod out there with 8lb test, just to have some fun. Some people use gear out there that is way overkill to me.

Watch your stuff when you go out there. We had a pole stolen, I had it behind me against a tree by the pump house for the fountain. It's sad when you can't even keep your stuff near you. On another note, I'm sure i'ts pretty fished out right now as far as catfish, the Kids derby, the undesireables that catch 30 at a time... Someone said they were catching panfish.. Do you mind if I ask what you were using? I'd love to catch some out there, just never thought of it.

We used small chunks of hot dog and were catching the panfish on the parking lot side of the pond.

I will more than likely be out there tonight around 6 or so with my son and possibly my niece.

Also, I was using the regular DK punch bait, maybe I should pick up a tub of the garlic???

We usually do good with cheap cheap hotdogs for the catfish, no problems there, but I'm gonna try the panfish, never see anyone really fishing out there for those

Sounds like it will be busy out there tonight since everyone knows they are restaking the pond. I believe me and my little man will be down there tonight as well unless something changes between now and then. Won't be till maybe a little after 6 if not a little later by the time we will be able to make it out.

Swamp Donkey you are correct about the size. As for stocking it, it usally happens late afternoon. Atleast the other 4 ponds do. One in Dallas Co. and 3 in Tarrant. The latest I seen them doing it has been 6:30 or 7:00. As early as 4:00. I would not even dream of going tonight. It will be shoulder to shoulder out there tonight. This whole week should be ok fishing, but I think it gets slow by the following week due to it being ovrfished. You can get on the txpwd website and there is a contact on there that can aswer questions about the stocking details of the 4 ponds. I am hitting Bob Jones in a day or so durring my lunch break to see if I can get some kitties. I caugt a decent one there last week in about a ft of water on shrimp.

Let me think about this. hmmm your guessing 30? I may just sit at home and actually do my school work and tell the little man that we will have to go tomorrow night if it will be that packed. never been on a day they stock the ponds. Make a deal with the man.. he ride the bike and I run with the dog? Maybe drive by first

It was great to meet you Tyler. You and your dad were killing them. Thanks again for the fish.

I left with a NICE limit after about 3 hours of fishing. Caught them on shrimp and hotdogs. All on the south end of the pond. Threw quite a bit back also.

Since a few of us obviously fish at Chisholm Park. I know that some of you go out there regularly. Maybe we all could have some sort of get together for us and our kids? Or maybe we could all show some sort of colors to signify that we are on this forum. Something like a bandana worn visible somewhere. Something of that nature. Just an idea.

I was there, too. I tried two kinds of punch bait, and not a single bite. Were you guys using floats or were you on the bottom? It seems that everyone there was catching some except for me. Next time I'm going to throw some hot dogs.

This sounds a lot like Greenbriar Park in Ft worth. They stocked it last night as well. Everyone that caught fish came on shrimp and hot dogs. Just like this pond. I was using shrimp but did not get but 2. Most that were catching a lot were using bobbers. I did not have any bobbers. Dont know bout Chisolm, but I did not see a single small fish caught at greenbriar.

I'll be a monkeys uncle if a bobber and earthworm don't produce the most cats at these little ponds. my 3 and 5 year old and I go and I throw bobbers with worms out for them (since paying attention is not high on their priority list) and I use a a powerbait or some other "guaranteed" bait and no bobber and I let it sit on the bottm and by the end of the day I've swithed to bobber and earthworm since they are realing them in and I'm basically ignoring my pole. that and their bobbers end up about 3 ft off the bank at times and they still haul them in. It's comical at times. Expecially when everyone around is watching me trip over multiple poles and moving kids out of the way to try and set hooks on the Zebco 33's (arguably the best combo ever made)......

I went out there last night and we managed 5 between two of us, all were caught on DK or CJ's punch bait. We went back this morning at 6 and wore them out on shrimp with both garlic and vanilla added to them. For the first hour I could only use one pole. We left at 8:30 with 9. We probably missed that many also trying to fish with two poles at first.

I always sit close to the pump house and have my camo folding chair with me. Stop by and say hi if you see me. I will see how many TFF stickers I have and will try to remember to bring some. Might take my neighbor and his son out there this evening.

none of the fish I saw caught last night at Chisholm could have possibly been more than 2 lbs. The people that caught the most were using bobbers, but I could not tell what they were using for bait. They pulled a fish at least once every 10 minutes or so it seemed.

The one Tyler gave me was definitely pushing 5 pounds and another one he gave me was pushing 3. They stocked some pretty big ones. I wish I was out there right now. bang

Nice. I wonder if the 5-pounder had been in there a while? I was under the impression that they stocked it with smaller cats.

Thats what I though too. This place is like fishing McDonalds.....way too many served. Everybody is out there and they just raid it so its only good for like a day or so after they stock it. Anyways..thats my thought...

Youd do better in a private spot thats "less known".

When its hard to find a spot fishing on a Tuesday at 11 o'clock am..time to go somewhere else.

Went out there tonight... After 2 hrs my little one caught a cat and a lttle sunfish.. all was released.. got alot of bites just never could hook anything really.. None of that matters though good to spend the time with my little one since it will be the last time till 4th of july weekend we get to go out fishing together,

still wish that people would be decent enough to not over fish the pond... people who go out every day and take home the limit plus some.. that can take the excitement out of fishing for some of the kids... oh well what can you do..

I went out yesterday but got skunked I got a few bites but couldnt bring anything in. There was a guy and a lady with a baby next to me that were hammering them in two feet of water. It seemed like everybody was catching them on worms.

It was dead yesterday nobody was catching anything. This pond is probably being overfished because there still should be a steadybite on the second day. What A Shame!!
