Well I have been fishing the pond near my house. (Pioneer Rd @ baseball park)

There are two ponds here. One is located north of the baseball field and one south of the baseball park.

So far I have been hooking a ton of Cats in the pond to the north. No keepers since they were all female and full of eggs. There have been some bass hooked and a few crappie too.

I plan to fish every single place in Mesquite that I can find and report what I find and where I went.

These ponds are located at:

Valley Creek Park - 2482 Pioneer Rd. Mesquite, TX 75149

88.21 acre park with a 1.14 mile concrete trail, a playground, small lake with fishing piers, a large picnic pavilion and 6 picnic tables. The park also includes Hubert Terry Athletic Complex which consists of 4 lighted baseball fields, 3 football fields, and a concession & restroom building.

I will be there today but fishing the south pond for a change to see what is in it.

I will be using small jigs and chicken livers.

Well, I just got back from fishing. The water was calm and the water color was a little murky. The temperature outside was 77 degrees. I went to Wal-mart to purchase night crawlers and some spinner bait.

I arrived parking on the south side of the pond. With all the water up the pier was underwater and was real marshy. I ended up on the other side of the pond furthest to the south.

I started with a night crawler. For 30 minutes nothing in that one location. I moved 20 feet to the west and hooked up some chicken livers. I sat there for another 30 to 40 minutes and nothing. There were fish jumping, just not jumping on my line.

I dunno.

I moved to the North pond and ran into a guy that always fishes there. He was telling that he has had a few good bites. I changed my rigging to the spinner bait. 45 minutes passed and nothing...

I must be doing something wrong. It was my first time rigging up the spinner bait so I might have done that wrong.

Until next time.

About three weeks ago I caught a nice 13" big mouth bass in the Palos Verdes Park. My daughter and i have also caught a number of catfish and perch as well. Yesterday I had a few bites there but couldn't set my hook. One of those days. We were fishing just before the big storm hit.

We have caught big mouth bass at a pond on Cartwright between 635 and Pioneer. It's kind of tough to get there. It sits across from some soccer fields and is between a housing developement and a park. If you're not looking for it you will miss it.

The big pond there at the park does have some bass in it. at least one in 3lb range.
tried the pond you mentioned Vince. or atleast I think I have it sits on the opposite side of Cartwrite?

Also try Samuel Farms. go to the farthest east pond and you'll find some nice bass.

if you just want to get your line pulled (hard) , the city park pond in downtown old mesquite has some nice fighting carp . wheat bread on a hook should do the trick .take a net because the banks are about 3 ft down from ground level

Today I didn't work, so I am going to hit Samuel Farms. I am going to hit the east tank and try to fish for my first bass. I'll be back with results.

When I got there there was an overcast. So from the advice from a friend, I chose to use a darker worm to use. After an hour, I got nothing. I switched places around the pond but there was a lot of moss and grass in the water.

The weather started to mist and then all of a sudden, the sun came out. So, I switched to a brighter plastic minnow. NOTHING.

UGH! Well it was time to go and I heard from the people gathering in the front of the entrance that the bass were biting at live minnows and someone walked out of there with four large mouth bass and a ridiculous size blue gill.

Until next time, keep on fishin.

Alright, Friday I went to Samuel Farm at about 5:30pm ready to fish and was not let in because they close at 5:00pm. Unbelievable. So I then went to the City Lake in south Mesquite and fished for an hour and a half and caught nothing. Bummer.
Saturday, went fishing at the Palos Verdes Park I didn't catch anything but my daughter caught a catfish and a perch. She was excited. My wife also caught a catfish. Today we may try Samuel Farm again. I'll let you know what happens.

Hmmm. "Someone walked out of there with four large mouth bass"? If I recall correctly, there is a sign posted in the breezeway of the office of Samuel Farms stating that the LargeMouth Bass are 'catch and release only'. The other species are fair game. Has that restriction been lifted now?

I have fished the ponds at the ball fields a whole lot, wife used to walk the trails. Have not fished there in a while. But have pulled out several bass in the 3 - 4 pound range. I had best luck flipping a texas rigged craw on the edges of the cattail grass. May be a few late spawners, caught one on a bed next to the big peir. Good luck, hope you hook a good one soon.

still free the only thing is you must sign in when you arrive. That's all. You must have a license or at least they would prefer that you did.

The catch limits are enforced.

Went back to my fishing pond near my house. caught three cats all were filled with eggs so I placed them back.

There is a pond somewhat hidden at the Bruton Soccer complex. (actually two ponds) I am going to try and hit those today.

If your coming from the east off of Cartwright, turn right then a left on Riggs Circle and follow around bend and you should run into pond. Not sure on parking yet.

I just got back from fishing at the ponds behind the soccer complex.

There are no catfish but there are bass (nice size). The moss is a factor but you can move it with a tree limb or a rake. There is a bad thing though and that are the turtles! These damn things are bait robbing sons of b!tche5. Four time they took my worms and livers.

Parking is a bitch. The best thing I can suggest is to park at the soccer complex and jump the river to get to the pond. I'll hit it again tomorrow and this time bring a rake to move the moss. lol

Alright, not much chatter lately. Must be a lot of fishing and not much catching. Today I will be trying a new spot off of Northwest Hwy between Oats and 30. Don't know anything about it. I will let you know. If no luck there I will head to Samuel Farm. Hopefully I will have a good fish story later.

I checked out the spot on Northwest Hwy. The water didn't seem clean enough to fish and the mosquitos were out of control, so I left and fished the Palos Verdes Park. Had real good luck there. Caught 2 catfish, 1 perch, and a LMB in about an hour and a half. I also hit Samuel Farm at 4pm and fished till 5. Didn't even get a nible. Good Day!

Is nobody fishin in Mesquite anymore? I was just out at Palos Verdes Lake Park again on Tuesday evening between 6 and 7 and landed this nice LMB. A real nice sized one at that. I was out this past Sunday as well and saw a guy pull out the biggest catfish I've ever seen come out of that body of water. There are some big ones in there. Just gatta go get'em. Well, I hope to see some more chatter on this forum.

I fished the big pond at Valley Creek Park this morning from 8am-11am. Was going after bass only, but got skunked. No bites or anything. The water clarity was very poor so I think it will be tough fishing there right now. We were throwing spinnerbaits and plastic worms.

Afterwards, we stopped by the Mesquite City Pond and got similar results. Very murky water, and no signs of life as far as bass goes right now. Spoke to some catfishermen while there, and they weren't having much luck either.

Doesn't the hours that Samuell Farms operate pretty much eliminate it from being any use this time of year? I didn't know about the operating hours (9a-5p) before me and my son went out there the other day, we showed up around 3:30 and it was hotter than &#@*! Had not even one bite the whole time. I couldn't help but think what a shame it was that the evening fishing was an impossibility. I'd like to go again, but I suppose we'll have to wait for the first cool front to try again. Can someone verify something for me though... my son and I found the big pond (apprx 2 acres I think) way to the left of the entrance... but is there any others that are worth fishing? We also found 2 small ponds east of the red barn but one had really low water level and the other was totally scummed over the surface (couldn't be fished at all). There were som gates with "authorized personel only", so I assume there are no more ponds further back. Anybody have any tip for this place? TIA.

i have fished the two biggest ponds with great success...but that was in the spring..havent been there in a while though, there is more ponds that are fishable further back, you can ask the nice lady in the office for a map of the area and if you ask nicely she might even tell you what is stocked in them..early morn i guess would be ur best bet..soon as they open!!

I fished the big pond on the southeast side of Samuell Farms today from 3pm-5pm. Was going for bass. Hooked keeper-sized bass on three occasions (felt like big ones), but lost 'em each time due to poor hooksets. I was throwing a black/blue trick worm. My partner didn't get a single bite throwing spinners, however.

First time fishing there. I was pretty impressed with the waters. Definately beats some of the city parks I have been fishing lately.

Went fishing at Samuel Farm this morning. Tried using texas rigged plastic worms and got nothing. Not even a nibble. As I was fishing I noticed many fish feeding on the top of the water. So, I decided to use a green plastic frog and started top water fishing. I guess I made 10 to 12 casts and that's when it happened. BAAAAAMM!!!! From the depths came a violent bite. Oh Yeah! I let him have it for a second and then landed the hook. That sucker fought well too. Pulled him in, must have been a 5 pounder. Sure felt good. Haven't cought a fish since early August. It's time to catch'em again.

I never have much luck there.. caught one fish there is all, in two trips and it wasn't very big. I can tell it has fish too, but catching them has been tough for me there. Congrats on that big ol bass you landed, there is nothing like a huge hit on a frog and holding off on setting the hook right away is excruciateing, good job. What Frog were you throwing and did you get any other fish on it?

Man I have been living in Mesquite for 14 years and never thought to fish these ponds. I did catch a six pound channel cat at the ranch located on Lawson (right next to Falcon Liar). I also know there is a pond on the backside of the Falcon Liar subdivision that may have some fish in it. That big catfish that was posted from Old Mesquite pond came from the stocking they use to do for the Kidfish event. They always put a 15+ pounder in and would give prizes for anyone who catches it. I bet he was one that never got caught.

I was using a "green pumpkin horny toad" by Zoom. I was able to get another hit on the frog but, I wasn't able to stay disciplined and tried to set the hook too soon. So, that one got away.

Lots of great November fall fishing. Catching plenty of LMB on crank baits. I mean these crank baits are fish magnets. Everytime I get the chance to fish I end up pulling bass out. My daughter is doing the same. The few ponds I fish in Mesquite are producing nice fish. I see alot of other people out fishing these ponds as well, but see or hear no chatter on the forum. Why? If the weather holds up this weekend I will be out fishing on Sunday. Hope to see ya out there.

Pond fishing has been pretty bad for us lately.

Where was that pic taken if you don't mind me asking? Looks like a good spot.

Vince, I'll be headed out tomorrow as well if this front slides in. I always have my best days with a front overhead.
