I googled freddie grant fun of fishing and couldn't find anything.
Back in the 80's when all the fishing shows were on sunday morning, he did a show on a gravel pit close to my house. I got up early one sunday, fished that pit, came home, turned on the tv and there's Freddie Grant fishing that same pit.

He fished the FLW Stren Seies Texas Division in 2007. That is the last I have heard of him.

Used to watch him on Sundays also. That's before I had cable. I liked where he would show you the area's of the lake that he fished.

All fishermen are legends in their own minds! Ranger Boats, Yamaha Outboards, Humminbird Electronics,Motor guide, and all the tackle in the world.

Is he the one that always refered to the "camera person"?

If so, she was a redhead, nice to look at. I fished a two day club tournament in the late 70's on Murvaul and he had been there most of the week filming a show.

Fun of Fishing was a first class TV show. Most of the lakes he fished were in the DFW area. Saw him several times on Lewisville and Lavon. He wore cowboy boots in the boat.
Back then, the fishing shows were not just one big comercial like the ones now.

Seems like "Wallace Wildlife" had the camera person and I think she was his wife. It was also another entertaining production.

Correct me if I am wrong, but were not both of these shows silent? The host added his comments in the studio. We are talking 30 years ago here!

I dont remember if FoF was silent or not, but I do remember that Wallace Wildlife was a silent show, with talking at the very end of the show.

I met Freddie Grant at a fishin expo when I was about 5 years old. He signed a flier for me and I had it tacked up on the in my room for a while. First "celebrity" I'd ever met.

Had the pleasure of fishing Lake Bridgeport with him back around 1980 or so.

Caught the only walleye there that I have ever caught (yes, there used to be walleyes in Bridgeport).

I remember he met us at the lake and he drove up to the ramp pulling his boat with a Cadillac! Guess that was before pickups caught on.

He sure knew his fishing. And he was fun to be with.

I use a knot still today that came from his show. I call it the freddie Grant knot. Have taught it to my grandson and he uses it. It has another name ,which I don't know. Simple to tie but hard to describe and effective. Was a good show but always liked the shore lunch on Wallace Widlife.

Freddie moved to East Texas if I'm not Mistaken. I saw him a couple of years ago during some of the Stren events. He's still around.

I went to Cuba in 1978 with Freddie, others, and the beautiful red head that was his wife (camera person)to film a scientific expedition at Treasure Lake. This lake was supposed to have world record bass in it. Last leg of the trip was on a DC 3 from Florida to Veradera Beach Cuba. We were supposed to measure fish length and girth to determine weight and return with info. that would help with increasing fish growth here. Was a little worried while we were there because Americans (State Dept. rules)were not supposed to go there and lots of Russian military presence.

My first cast with a 9in. Mister Twister worm caught a 6 pounder. The largest fish I saw weighed on cheapy spring scales was over 18lbs. I caught one over 14lbs. Todays catch and releasers would have really squawked watching all the large fish being cleaned.

All of the fishing shows back then were on 8mm. film and silent. I would usually meet Freddie at the channel 11 studios to talk about the fishing we had done. This would later be added to the original filming. He would talk about the fishing as the silent film was showing.

Your right, no infomerials back then. Freddie and others bought the 30min. or 1hr. of T V broadcast time. Freddie would then sell approx. 1 min. of advertising time per show for $1000 per month. You furnished the commercial or he would help you make one. Back then there was no Bass Pro or large company that was going to sponsor a local fishing show.

Boots in the boat-- One of Freddies good friends was sales manager for Justin boot company. You can guess his cost.
