Not at Big Creek ramp...it is closed. Richie, I confirmed your msg. with the their office. Our boats can still fit/launch but something must have happened for them to close it. I know that you could get out and walk your boat to the creek channel. Hopefully nobody got hurt. Maybe some folks didn't know or get warned about the sandbar.

Me and Tommy ended up with a unknown figure of crappie and catfish i dont know? I didnt even keep count.. I only caught a few Crappie and Tommy didnt catch many more than I did. But he managed quite a few cats over 3lbs. We got lost heading back to Welch...Ended up at Overlook somehow? When we left at 11:30pm or so Doug only had a few in the cooler.Dont know what his exact ending number was. What was very rough, whitecaps the entire lake. Crappie were biting soft, with rods going up and down on the holders the waves raised them 2ft easy, so I think we couldnt keep the bait in the strike zone long enough. But fish were still holding tight to structure in 12-14ft of water.

3 cats and 2 Crappie. The bite was extremely light on the crappie. Missed more than a dozen but keeping the bait in the zone was a chore with the wave action that night. Weather channel had 10mph winds but it was double that. Sandra was about asleep when a 18-19 inch hybrid got on her line. She didn't have it for long but we got to see it before it broke the line.
Those were some long and skinny channel cats that we caught.
Who was giving directions on your boat that night Richie? I tried calling ya but figured that you had your hands full. We were about to go run and get ya.
Took some family tubing this past wkend. Hated to be out there without a rod and seeing shad jump. Will probably head to lake Palestine this wkend. Last trip there produced a nice hybrid, but will not take the boat this time.

Remember the ZOO at the lake on the 4th of July holiday. My annual 4th of July pic from Rocky boat ramp from several yrs. back. Remember the parking brake and be patient-

The lower part of the lake is so busy with jet setters that I wouldn't run any trotline for fear of getting run over checking it

Went out 3 weeks ago and did really well. Then went out yesterday with Tommie and caught only 2 catfish after spending time hitting several key spots for LMB and WB. The LMB were still schooling off the rocks at WB Pass but they have seen more lures than my 2 tackle boxes hold in them. Plus they are still releasing water from the lake. I thought that last week was "the last week" for the release for awhile according to the lake manager in a local TV interview. We saw what we believe to be an airplane wing exposed in the sand bank of the SW end of the point off the lakeside ramp at Yegua park. Should have checked it out a bit more. The last hour plus of the trip was spent touring the lake and seeing the water levels. Some pretty dramatic changes have been made in even the last 3 weeks from my last trip out.You can walk across the lake from Birch creek SP to the other side. (Pecan Lake area side) It isn't deeper than a foot. Back towards the Island between Nail and Birch is all green with vegatation. There is no Island just land. Saw plenty of stakes/poles in the water back there. Some were metal Will post some pics soon. But most were PVC pipes jutting up everywhere.

We were out Sunday afternoon when the storm blew through. The wind switched suddenly by 90 degrees and started blowing out of the cove by the marina at Overlook. It was howling in minutes with big whitecaps. It was the downdraft from a big storm passing south of the lake. There were big dust devils blown off the exposed shoreline near the dam and a double rainbow. Looked like a lot of rain just NW of the lake that might have made it into a tributary, hard to say.
We caught a bunch of small black bass trolling pet spoons. We never catch black bass this way. We caught 2 whites and about 20 drum. Strange fishing. We caught a bunch of catfish later in our usual spot a lot of big ones again, unusual.
They said at the marina that Lake Belton gates had been repaired and that they were going to start lettting water out of that and shut in Somerville "sometime soon" There's 1.5 feet of water at the Overlook Marina gas dock, it's tricky getting out of the dock slip there but you can still do it. They had 3 inches of rain in Somerville proper but it was on the wrong side of the dam :-( Here's hoping for some rain.

Pics from last week (iphone camera)- Overlook ramp; Remember if you take off from here to go out to the main lake stay in the channel next to the Island Rocky Creek point; The shoal/hump next to Rocky Creek secondary boat ramp. Nine to ten feet above water, and the cut between the shoal and shore is about 1 1/2 feet and 25 yds wide; Looking back from the mid channel area betwwen Birch Sp and Pecan Lake area. Birds standing in 4-6 inches of water. The Island (left side of photo) looking towards Yegua/Nails area is solid ground going completely across the lake. (Public hunting area) Birch Creek SP ramp; The best way to view the level is from the dam. You can see the cuts between the sandbars that I've warned waders about for some time. These cuts also hold the WB in the Spring. Ben, also has some videos on his blog with the Eagle newspaper. BE CAREFULL OUT THERE!
