I've been out twice since August, caught fish both times but nothing to brag about.. Bass fishing on lake Bastrop has been good though wink

i just looked at the lake somerville website and the lake has gone up about a foot and a half with all the rain, hopefully the lake will go up to normal pool by the white bass run.

Snapper...it will probably keep coming up. I was at the deer lease yesterday (right near the turn off to Birch) it we still had water running through creeks. I dont know how much rain they got out in Lyons/Somerville but it was plenty.

Currently the lake is slowly rising and is at 236.4 or about a foot and a half from pool (238.0) If the lake is within a foot of normal level then the fish will have no trouble getting into the creeks. I will suggest that the crappie fishing in the yegua should still be good but the creek fish will likely have grubs and worms in them. I'll be kayaking up the Yegua from Nails creek park sometime real soon! anyone else want to go?

HLS..what artificials do you use on crappie in the Yegua? Ive thought about walking the creek seeing if anything will bite.

The cheapest jigs I can find.. usually 1/8th oz. yellow. In the creeks I crappie fish from the kayak whenever possible because a vertical presentation works best IMHO. Right now the Yegua and Nails creek are up and muddy so minnows will work best until it clears up some.. December/January has been good to me in the Yegua especially if the lake goes real high and floods in the early fall..
