I wouldn't be surprised if he caught some Hybrids. There's likely to be a few up there for sure.

My boys and I kayaked up from the Trailway bridge @ Newmans and found lots of whitebass (males) still in the creek. about 40 whites caught between the three of us. Roostertails in yellow, white and chartreuse 1/6-1/8th oz. did the trick. Not to picky about retrieve speed but slower/deeper seems better than faster/shallow. Most fish still holding around and in the current which is why we went upstream from Newmans.. Good Friday in more ways than one...

He caught 11 whites and one nice size catfish. He fished the bridge and Newmans. He said he was done with the white bass fishing, now to target some crappie.

Nice. Glad you were able to get out and catch a few, Ben. Looking forward to the video.

As always, Awesome video!

I've fished that part of newman's for years. I thought I knew the banks in that area. I can usually recognize the trees and log jams etc. I didn't recognize any of it in your video from that water level view. It looks like a few more trees have fell in from the last time I was there a month or so ago.

congrats on the fishing trip. it looked like alot of fun.

Like Fishytx, i'm done with the whites this year. For me, it's onward to the spring catfishing at Lake Livingston, and Calaveras; and some black bass fishing in Austin's Town Lake (lady bird lake). then work work work until next fall. In Oct. I'll be headed for the bull reds in Port A & Packery Channel.

Thank you all for sharing your stories. I'm sure I'll join you again next year on the banks of the Yegua.

tight lines all!

Shut up and fish!

I don't know white bass that well... Is it possible that some of those fish are permanent residents of the creek?

It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

Trying to talk the wife into going to rocky creek saturday morning before hitting the bluebonnet fest.
Having carpal tunnel surgery on the 15th so it may be a couple weeks before i can cast or wrestle a fish.
Hopefully there will be a few around there to catch

I suspect there are a few whitebass that will stay in the deeper sections of the creek much longer than usual but they do need more forage fish to feed on when the water warms.

Anyone fished the yegua this year? I'm looking to head out there Sunday with my brother to see how the white bass bite is.

There is a lot of information in the Lake Somerville thread on this year's white bass run.

If you go out to fish or photograph birds around flag pond, just a heads up that they have photographed a large gator in the area and they think there might be two of them, so watch were you step.
