Bad News - It's looking like we've had a couple of drownings on Richland Chambers.
Jerry King and his grandson (17-years-old Jerrod Rachel). Out in all that wind yesterday (in the Pontoon Boat).
Jerry is a very, very experienced fisherman (goes out almost everyday). Loves the Blue Cats and I'm sure that the high winds yesterday was just calling his name to get on them.
They (TPWD) are looking for the bodies now.
If you do go out in the high winds (and I know it is very tempting to do just that - for the Spring Blues) wear your life jackets at all times (mishaps happen fast and there is no time to recover).
Also if there is hint of lighting/thunder storms in the area (get off the lake fast).
Use your kill switch (getting back in that boat is your best chance).

Mark, Sad News!!! I fished early yesterday, but got off the Lake around 11AM. It was rocking and rolling by then with large rollers and strong sustained winds. Only saw two other boats out and one was Adam who was up the creek after the Crappie. RC is not a Lake to mess with when you get over 20 MPH winds. Royce www.gonefishin.biz

What a shame. The lady that works with me knows Jerry, and his grandson Jerod who is 17. She called someone and they reported that it looks like Jerry went in first, grabbed the door which broke, and his grandson went in to rescue his grandfather. She confirmed what you said Mark, that he was a very experienced boater and fisherman. In addition, she said he was genuinely one of the nicest guys you would ever meet.

Royce,
Yep I canceled out yesterday due to the wind forecast (and so glad we did). That was some major wind.
You and Adam can work the south shore lines (coming out of Fisherman's Point) - when the wind is like that from the south, but for me and others coming from Oak Cove (as Jerry King did), it's bad and dangerous.
Canceled out today (due to the little front today, potential high winds with the thunder storms - LIGHTING).
Fishing is great fun, but pick your times to go and use you safety gear (Life Jackets, Kill Switches and common sense).
Accidents happen fast and there is no time to recover,

Hey Guitarbob (good to meet you at Home Depot yesterday). You are right - Jerry King is a jewel of a guy (if you ever met him you would immediately know - he is one of those - good as gold, one of those very special people you meet in your lifetime). A Great fisherman with tons and tons of experience. We just simply all have to learn from the mistakes of others, in this situation.

Prayers for the King family. Our company has bought sand from King for years and several of my co-workers knew him personally.

Can i ask a question .without getting slammed?
If he was a veteran fisherman of RC, shouldnt he know better to fish it with the high winds, folks dont get me wrong at all was just wondering.
Tradegy know doubt no matter what the circumstances.

Seems the only one that can answer that question is the one that is now gone.
Experience, can get you into trouble as you push the odds, and with him being experienced, he has more than likely been in that kind of wind before, and had confidence in his ability and that of his vessel, but when you have that type of conditions, even the slightest mistake by even a veteran like he was, can and will cost you your life.
Probably would have been a better choice to wait for another day, but we will never know.
