My friends I had a pretty good bank fishing at Ray Hubby on Saturday. We got a bunch of catfish and about 5 Bowfin. Donovan caught 3, one of which was a nice 8 Lb 14 Oz male.

check out the fins.. something the camera has a hard time showing- is the fins turn a bright green/chartruese color. its pretty neat in this prehistoric freak of nature.

Never forget my first bowfin caught from the Navasota river near Limestone. I made the mistake of getting a few fingers too close to it's mouth.

Massive fighters. You'll think you've got a lake record everytime you hook up on one. They are some good rod benders. I've only caught 2 in my life and on spinnerbaits. What were ya'll catching them on?
They do have the most interresting colors on the fins though.
If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

I love these fish though it's been about 15 years since I've gotten one. We used to get them occasionally while going for bass in the backwaters of the Mississippi River in Illinois. We also caught tons of them in Florida fishing the St. John's River for bass. Unfortunately, down there they are very much considered a nuisance. The guide we had killed every "mudfish" he caught with one of those small novelty baseball bats.
