Hey guys I am getting my jon boat on Sunday and was wondering how difficult it is to install a depth finder into it. I dont want anything too fancy probably just get a cheap hummingbird, and have seen the fishing buddy ones that clamp out to the side, but kid of want a unit inside the boat for a more professional look.. thanks for the help!

i had a little jon boat with a fish finder, the fish finder came wtih a bracket and i just mounted it to the seat, and for the transducer they make little suction cup mounts that are pretty handy,no drilling holes, hope this helps out.

Academy has some very reasonable priced on clearance. Use JB weld to glue a piece of heavy duty plastic block to the back of your john boat then screw the transducer bracket into it. Wood block will also work for along while if you paint it well I would think. In the end you will have no holes in your boat.

Boatless for minute

I mounted Cuda 168 on my old jon boat. I mounted the transducer on the transom and drilled a hole above the handle. I installed something similar to a Romex connector to hold the wire and used silicon to fill the hole. I ran the wiring up the side of the boat in some conduit and had me a depth finder right up front. There are several good websites on rigging out tin boats. The only thing that holds you back is your imagination! And maybe a dollar or two.

BTW, I have a Cuda 168 with a never used transducer sitting in the shop I would sell for say $35-40 bucks.
Good luck.

For you jon boat riggers, check out this guys pics.

I bought his e-book, it had some good ideas. I had mine rigged out pretty well, but decided it was time for a bigger boat for these big lakes in Texas.

Enjoy.
