But that is its sweet spot. I might try a programer and see if that helps me. I wish i could find a good 92-93 cummins at a good price. I would keep the fancy GMC at the house most of the time then.

I checked my fuel mileage last week during the cold and I got 24.3 mpg on my 04 3/4 ton 4x4 with 181,000 miles. Did it the correct way, not by the display. I guess it is just now getting broke in.

i changed my fuel filter in the truck that had about 20k on it. i have never done it before so i could only guess what it is going to get now. but i love it.
i also changed the air pressure in the tires the door says that it shoudl have 60 in the front and 40 in the rear.
i bumped the pressure up to 50 in the rear and you would could tell the difreance in the ride it is amazing what air pressure can do for pulling.

I've had 4 Cummins' now and just switched over to Duramax. I've owned the old rotary pump engine, 12v, 24v, and common rail. The common rail engine was the best "stock" pulling engine I owned, the 12v had the pump turned up and was a running/pulling son of a gun!
I didn't care for the 24v, sluggish and weak, but I had the 5spd and not the 6spd. The '93 model with the rotary pump was a hoss also, just a rough old truck
I decided to go with a Duramax this time because I'm scared of the 6.7's.

i think that everyone is scared of the 6.7 they are good motors but they do not have all the bugs worked out yet and that is why i have one when i heard that they were going to switch the motors and give them converters i did not want anything to do with it.
just to let you know that the 5 speed was not the high output and it was made to pass the california emmissions is what i was told from a guy that was a member of the diesel forum.

I talked to a guy Saturday that has an 08 with the 6.7. When he pulled in next to me, I noticed how quiet it was. He said the power is there but the best fuel mileage he was getting was about 14 on the highway.

The 6.7's defintaly have the power, and the have the exahust brake installed from the factory, which is a really cool deal, but the problem is in the regen issues they have been having. Its not a big deal while the truck is under warranty, but when I buy a truck I try to hang onto it for a while and I don't want some headache way down the road.

Ok Ill chime in a little....Whatcha mean eats tires? what does the engine have to do with tires? Reason i ask is cuz my two fronts are really wearing fast...I was thinking it was the alignment??? Ive got an 2007, 6.7 manual 6 speed....power is not an issue. I can pull my 28 foot striper boat down the hwy at 70++ and still excelerate. I am also pretty satisfied with the gas mileage so far.. now keep in mind this is using the computer readout on the console so im not sure how accurate those are....But on the hwy not towing doing tween 65-70 I can easily get a reading of 21-22 mpg. City driving goes down to about 18 and towing the boat stays tween 17-18 mpg poorboy.. what are regen issues ? after I know what they are ill tell ya if Im having them

jd it has a third cumbustion event that takes place in the exhaust system if left ideling for long periods it will plug it up with soot.tires wearing may be from weak springs the cummings motors are heavy ! both of my trucks ate the inside of the tires , the one i traded in only had 484,000 miles half of that was with 14-24,000 lbs behind it 12 valve! but beside tires fuel was the only thing i EVER had to replace!(except seats from my butt draging across them)luckily my current truck has the proven 5.9

poorboy.. what are regen issues ? after I know what they are ill tell ya if Im having them All of the new diesels, starting in the 2nd half of 2007, fall under the new emmission requirments set by uncle sam. in a nutshell, the exahust passes through a Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF). After X amount of miles and gallons of fuel burned, an actual flame is ignited in the exahust system and burns off the particulate matter in the DPF, a regen (particulate is basically the black soot in diesel smoke) Now if for somereason the truck fails to regen, the DPF will become completely clogged and after its all said and done, the truck won't run and you'll wind up getting a ride to the dealer with the help of a wrecker. The DPF's are industry wide as far as "on highway" diesel engines are concerned. Light, medium, and heavy duty trucks. from what I've read and herd, the Dodges are having the most problem, and GM is having the least amount of regen issues. I am in the heavy truck indusrty. What used to be the most sought after engine in my industry, Caterpiller is going to quit building truck engines in 2010 because of the issuse they are having, and the new, stricter standareds the government is enforcing in 2010....

Thank goodness I don't have a need for a diesel truck, what an ongoing maintenance nightmare, and only gonna get more interesting after 2010.
I feel for you fellas that rely on 'em for a living!
