But that is its sweet spot. I might try a programer and see if that helps me. I wish i could find a good 92-93 cummins at a good price. I would keep the fancy GMC at the house most of the time then.

I checked my fuel mileage last week during the cold and I got 24.3 mpg on my 04 3/4 ton 4x4 with 181,000 miles. Did it the correct way, not by the display. I guess it is just now getting broke in.

i changed my fuel filter in the truck that had about 20k on it. i have never done it before so i could only guess what it is going to get now. but i love it.
i also changed the air pressure in the tires the door says that it shoudl have 60 in the front and 40 in the rear.
i bumped the pressure up to 50 in the rear and you would could tell the difreance in the ride it is amazing what air pressure can do for pulling.

I've had 4 Cummins' now and just switched over to Duramax. I've owned the old rotary pump engine, 12v, 24v, and common rail. The common rail engine was the best "stock" pulling engine I owned, the 12v had the pump turned up and was a running/pulling son of a gun!
I didn't care for the 24v, sluggish and weak, but I had the 5spd and not the 6spd. The '93 model with the rotary pump was a hoss also, just a rough old truck
I decided to go with a Duramax this time because I'm scared of the 6.7's.

i think that everyone is scared of the 6.7 they are good motors but they do not have all the bugs worked out yet and that is why i have one when i heard that they were going to switch the motors and give them converters i did not want anything to do with it.
just to let you know that the 5 speed was not the high output and it was made to pass the california emmissions is what i was told from a guy that was a member of the diesel forum.

I talked to a guy Saturday that has an 08 with the 6.7. When he pulled in next to me, I noticed how quiet it was. He said the power is there but the best fuel mileage he was getting was about 14 on the highway.

The 6.7's defintaly have the power, and the have the exahust brake installed from the factory, which is a really cool deal, but the problem is in the regen issues they have been having. Its not a big deal while the truck is under warranty, but when I buy a truck I try to hang onto it for a while and I don't want some headache way down the road.

Ok Ill chime in a little....Whatcha mean eats tires? what does the engine have to do with tires? Reason i ask is cuz my two fronts are really wearing fast...I was thinking it was the alignment??? Ive got an 2007, 6.7 manual 6 speed....power is not an issue. I can pull my 28 foot striper boat down the hwy at 70++ and still excelerate. I am also pretty satisfied with the gas mileage so far.. now keep in mind this is using the computer readout on the console so im not sure how accurate those are....But on the hwy not towing doing tween 65-70 I can easily get a reading of 21-22 mpg. City driving goes down to about 18 and towing the boat stays tween 17-18 mpg poorboy.. what are regen issues ? after I know what they are ill tell ya if Im having them

jd it has a third cumbustion event that takes place in the exhaust system if left ideling for long periods it will plug it up with soot.tires wearing may be from weak springs the cummings motors are heavy ! both of my trucks ate the inside of the tires , the one i traded in only had 484,000 miles half of that was with 14-24,000 lbs behind it 12 valve! but beside tires fuel was the only thing i EVER had to replace!(except seats from my butt draging across them)luckily my current truck has the proven 5.9

poorboy.. what are regen issues ? after I know what they are ill tell ya if Im having them All of the new diesels, starting in the 2nd half of 2007, fall under the new emmission requirments set by uncle sam. in a nutshell, the exahust passes through a Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF). After X amount of miles and gallons of fuel burned, an actual flame is ignited in the exahust system and burns off the particulate matter in the DPF, a regen (particulate is basically the black soot in diesel smoke) Now if for somereason the truck fails to regen, the DPF will become completely clogged and after its all said and done, the truck won't run and you'll wind up getting a ride to the dealer with the help of a wrecker. The DPF's are industry wide as far as "on highway" diesel engines are concerned. Light, medium, and heavy duty trucks. from what I've read and herd, the Dodges are having the most problem, and GM is having the least amount of regen issues. I am in the heavy truck indusrty. What used to be the most sought after engine in my industry, Caterpiller is going to quit building truck engines in 2010 because of the issuse they are having, and the new, stricter standareds the government is enforcing in 2010....

Thank goodness I don't have a need for a diesel truck, what an ongoing maintenance nightmare, and only gonna get more interesting after 2010.

Yes, they build DPF Delete Kits that you can run, and would probably be alright, but it is illegal. If you were ever caught you'd have to pay a fine, but its highly unlikely you'd ever get caught. The only thing I am worried about with running a DPF delete kit on mine is voiding the waranty. Some dealerships care and some don't, just depends on your relationship with the dealership. I need my warranty, I'm skeerd
I didn't know if there was a sensor on the 6.7's or not, my LMM ecm reads milage and fuel used and will regen. I belive it regens between 325 and 450 miles. I'm not sure on the 6.7's, but it takes 3 gallons of fuel to regen an LMM
Ronnie, I was just wandering if you were running a 12v or 24v....if it was a 12v we could do some "fine tuning" on the fuel pump real cheap like...

I have a 2004 model two wheel drive. It pulls hard and I am pleased with the gas mileage. What I don't like is that the truck came with a tow package but does NOT have a limited slip differential or anti-spin as Dodge calls it. This has caused problems at the ramp. I checked into getting a locker rear and I can't find anyone that makes one for the 11.5 rear end. All that power going to just one wheel is nuts.

this is an american rear axle from the factory. this is a different type of anti-spin. you have to apply emergency brake slightly to engage full lock. if one wheel starts to spin the diff stays open not locked up. look in your oweners manual in the gloove box for further information...

I also have a "99, 4X4. I have the FASS HPFP, Smarty and 100 HP injectors and average 19/20 MPG. Original VP lasted 200K miles and the stock clutch (5spd) was replaced at 218K miles with a new South Bend. With the Ultra Low Sulpher Diesel we have now, I do add 16 oz of two cycle oil at fill up to give the VP the lubrication it needs. I don't tow a lot any more, but have towed a 26' TT and horse trailer for many miles. It now has 225K miles and I would drive it anywhere. A good info source for Dodge/Cummins is: http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/index.php

The 6.7 runs great I have never had trouble with them. Pulling heavy loads that motor will get it stock and I drive a lot of miles.

I love my 02 5.9 6spd. I haul and tow up here in Alaska. I love the dual wheels for stability while hauling, but hate them on the snow.

That's funny. A state trooper lives next to my gf...We drive almost identical trucks...his is louder than mine..and I'm running a straight from the turbo. I know he's got his straight piped too, I think he's 6" and mines 5".

i pulled my boat to ceder creek yesterday and was running 75-80 all the way there and still get 16.9 miles a gallon. I dunno, I met a guy a week ago who has a new cummins and said if the dealer has to take his truck back one more time, it's going back under the lemon law. Something about not running right on the new low sulphur fuel????

Something about not running right on the new low sulphur fuel???? how new is new? The 2007.5's and up were designed to run on ULSD (15ppm). I bet he is having problems with the DPF clogging up and the truck not re-genning. Does he run it hard and leave the exahust brake on at all times (givin its a 6.7l), or does he baby it around and let the truck idle all day?

stock '05 Cummins not sure which one(5.9 I think) but i drove from Garland to South Padre on one tank of fuel and still had some left. Thought that was pretty good. I believe it was around 670-680 miles outta one fill-up. Granted that was at the time diesel was around 4 bucks.

Have a 5.9 six speed, with the bully dog programmer I get between 19-22 on the highway. Plus I took it to the drag strip and ran a 14.60 at 100mph, and that is leaving in 3rd gear!
Pulls my race car and boat like nothing I have ever owned before.

I have an 05 ram 2500 with the 5.9L and automatic transmission. I've been searching the Internet on if this transmission is good or not but haven't found much info. I read the standard transmission is good but does anyone know about the automatic?

I got an 06 dodge cummin. Love it. Beginning of year i did some mods to it.
billet auto tranny 66mm over 480 twin turbo studs springs dual cp3s 150hp injectors airdog fuel pump crazy larry bullydog tune arc flow intake manifold.
Truck was nasty. Was real diasppointed in the numbers though. Only put down 725 on a crappy dyno. Never got turbos to lite. Smoke never cleared either. Truck on a good dyno was around 800hp or so. On street once i got the turbos lite i would spin to over 90 before gaining traction. Never made it to track. We figured low 11s out of it. Also pulling boat at 100 was no problem either.
Ended up putting back to stock and buying 22s for it. Too fast for me. 11mpg all the time sucked too. But it was fun!! Any of u guys need parts or help on truck aftermarket wise let me know. Always down to work. I did all work myself on mine. And also my buddies
