16.12, 13.48 and a 13.16 in one day on fork March 22, 2002(maybe off a bit on the 13's so correct me)

Fork > all

Thats great for Ah though, glad to see another lake producing 13lbers from the program...every lake can use those genetics smile smile

AH could very easily be the next big bass lake in texas, it is only 15 years young and ready to peak any year now, i'll be graduating soon and getting out of lubbock so i'll be fishing it as much as possible for the next year or so, look for my sharealunker soon!

Well, cameron. I'm not going to get into comparing the two lakes, as they are both great and have big bass. You do have to consider as far as 3 in one day... There were about 25 boats on the water today and about the same yesterday. How many do you think there were on March 22, 2002 on Fork. If it was a weekend, my guess is over 1000 easy. Now check the % on that. I'm not saying AH is the next Fork and dont want people to get into that. They are different lakes with different positive and negatives.

Spinners... shoot me an email about when you fish.

Awsome fish! No one can take anthing away from these fish. There have been years where there hasn't been 4 ShareLunker bass caught in the whole state! TTU is right about the %, but how long would AH hold up to that kind of pressure? Enjoy it while it lasts because it aint going to get much better than this. I just wish I lived closer to your lake. Way to go guys.

I still look pretty dazed in that picture (on top). As a matter of fact, I am pretty dazed right now. The state finally showed up at about 12:15 a.m. this morning to get the fish. I wanted to wait and send her off, so the good folks at Grubbs fed me coffee for 7 hours while we waited. Both fish seemed in great shape as the TPW truck left the lake last night. The guy driving the truck said that both fished were in better shape than most. I have the phone number to the hatchery, and I am going to call later and check on their status as of today.

As far as the story goes, it was about as good as it could get--a 13 in a tournament. I was fishing the ABA tournament and had seen one of the 13s caught on Saturday after I was done prefishing. I had a few fish located and was fairly certain about the depth and lure. By 10 a.m. I had a five pounder and two quality fish right around 16 inches long. On Alan Henry, you can only weight two fish under 18 inches, so I had culled through 5 or 6 other fish to get to my best 3 fish. The fish I caught in the morning were holding on a ledge that dropped off into a creek channel. So at about 10:30 a.m., I remembered a spot that had a similar ledge falling into a channel. Went in there and found a ton of fish in water that was about two degrees warmer than the main lake (49.3 degrees). At straight up noon, I threw a chartreuse/green back DD22 onto the top of the ledge and the bait never made it to the deep water. The fish made about three short bursts but never really got out of control. On the second pass by the boat, the non-boater I had drawn for the tournament very causaully scooped the fish into the dipnet. I knew she was big but wasn't sure how big. I weighed her on an old set of Berkley scales I have and the readout went to 12.5. So me thinking that other people may also be on good fish, I tossed her in the livewell and kept fishing. It wasn't until the tournament director's scales at the weigh-in read 13.1 that I even thought about a Share-a-Lunker. As soon as I knew she was that big, I lost all interest in the tournament and just wanted to get her in the program. Ended up with 20.4 pounds to win the the tournament and big bass. As much as I have dreamed about catching a Share-a-Lunker, it never crossed my mind about having it happen in a tournament. I guess all of us get lucky every now and again. Thanks Curtis for posting the pictures, and thanks to my non-boater (who was from Colorado and thought that my five pounder was a monster) for net duty.

Just got off the phone with the folks in Athens. I was told they were working up the fish this morning and they were very pleased with the shape all the fish are in. All four are alive and well. The director told me that often times the fish are pretty beat up when they get to Athens and that these four had no scrapes or cuts and no fin injuries. The director said he had just seen them work my fish up and that it was nice that I didn't yank it through the brush when I caught it. I wanted to tell him that I had no control over that--the fish pretty much went where she wanted and I just held on and prayed.

There was some concern that one of the fish caught on Saturday was not going to make it after being caught out of 40 feet of water. There were several attempts to deflate the air bladder at the lake and the fish was in pretty bad shape when it was picked up. Apparently that fish has made a full recovery and is doing fine. I know Ben will feel better knowing that.

I still dont think that these are the best days at AH, we will see. As for the increased pressure, it hopefully will help the city and lake authorities improve the facilities at the lake and ramp. the portapotties just wont do for much longer especially after lubbock has continually promised full restroom facilities. also, no complaining about pressure on the lake, this is a sport we take part in, so it will only raise the bar. it will never see the pressure that Fork draws based soley on the fact that the closest "large" city to AH is lubbock and that is an hour away. fork has NEVER had that luxury. so perhaps we are looking at the new big bass lake in texas.

Congrats on your win and Share-A- Lunker. You achieved in one day what most of us dream for in a lifetime. You do realize that it is all down hill from this point on.... LOL Just kidding. Hope you get many more. This should be a good advertisement for ABA. Have you e-mailed or called David Hagood. This is something that National Headquarters needs to post on the ABA Page. Send the pictures as well. Also tell Joe that he needs to get the results posted I want to see how many anglers he had and how everyone dd. Again Congrats on you fantastic win.

Congrats again to you guys. Hopefully I will get one soon as well. Rick, we didnt know you were a TFF member. Lets here the story. Speak up.

If anyone knows how they can get a digital picture of Ben's fish (if there was one taken) let me know. It would be nice to see all 4 up there.

BSM, It was good to draw a boater that was also a TFF member. Had fun fishing with you; you know your stuff. We were fishing the right pattern, just wasnt in the right spot at the right time I guess.

CONGRATS TO ALL ANGLERS!

Man, what a deal. I was under the bridge on Friday, looking at our land on the NW side of the bridge and LIKED what I saw then and there. Wished now that I had fished it, like I wanted too.

Spinnersallday, if memory serves, the lake was started in 1992 or 93, when it first started catching water. Project was started in 1991. I still hvae VHS tape of the lake at 20, 30, 42 and 53 ft depths, I think. Same GPS location and the deepest part of the lake. There should be some BIG smallies and Alabama Spots too, just not as prevelant. I have hooked a few fish that I thought were in that range there, but never even got close to landing one.

Again, CONGRATS TO ALL ANGLERS. Might be a fish of a life time.

Oh, and I have maps of over 25 springs and 11 tank dams of the place. My uncle owned all of Gobbler Creek at one time. Clyde Cash is his son, my cousin. HE is the one that is set up for some good land deals. LOL. OH, and Weldon has 2 boat docks he can build. Maybe we need to talk to him and go in with each other to do that. LOL.

I forgot to mention that a 10 lb northern LM came out of a 1/2 acre stock tank in Gobbler in 1969 or 1970. The lake record at Lake Justice is 10+ as well. So some GOOD genes and GREAT HABITAT. LOL. Sorry for the intrusion. Also, some other differences between Fork and AH. Fork is 27,680, AH 2880. Less pressured is AH. similarities, all of the structure in AH is natural, only area that was cleared was in front of the dam to build it. When you read the article, it says in the 19 year history, never before have 4 lunkers come from the same body of water in a 2 day period. SO, if you multiply AH by 9.61, to get the equivilant bass caught out of total acreage, you get 38.44 Share A Lunkers in 2 days. I think THaT is pure dreams. Of course, 4 out of a 2880 lake is PURE DREAMS too. We gotta have dreams. LOL. laugh

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Thanks for all the pats on the back. Got two interviews scheduled for this afternoon. Now I am wondering how crazy it will be down there this weekend. It is snowing here right now, so I am assuming we are going to see a dip in the water temperature.

TTU-F, I know that Rick and I have sent our pictures in already. I am not sure about Kevin or Ben.

Nice fish y'all!!!! Way to go keeping them in good condition so they can spawn and produce superior fingerlings to be stocked in TX waters so the rest of us have a chance at more big ones in the future. Thanks!

Bring some of those fingerlings down to Fayette!

AH is going to get pounded this weekend, glad I'm not fishing up there. It is not that big of a lake.

Congrats to all involved that is an amazing weekend for any lake!

I forgot to mention someone in my previous post on the Sharelunker I caught Sunday. My wife actually was fishing with me in that 38 degree weather and if she had not been there with a net, that fish would have never made it in to the boat. Guys, if you have a wife that gripes at you about going fishing, buy some extra rods and reels and take her with you. I have had some of the best times with her. This lady was actually President of the the bass club (Hub City West Texas Anglers) we are in a couple of years ago. I have wife that does not gripe about going fishing and a Sharelunker, it does not get any better.

Six years ago Alan Henry was forecasted by many AH locals to be the big bass capital of the world and produce the state record.

Strange.

Fork is a great lake and has been for a long time. You don't have to bash other lakes to help it out. There have been plenty of "hot lakes" for a year or so only to cool back off but badmouthing them and bringing up 5 year old posts isn't necessary to pump up Fork and drum up business.

Not any more. They were stocked originally but didnt last long.

Now they say they wont stock them because it would take them raising them to 10+" to survive, and that is not easy or cheap to raise enough to that size and stock them.

Its a good spotted bass lake now, but poor for largemouth. There are a few decent largemouth caught on the rare occasion.

Indeed she was, and she swam regularly in Lake Mexia. This of course explains so much.

I enjoyed reading this whole thread. Even if I didn't realize it was 6 years old. I am fairly new to TFF and bass fishing in general. So what happened to Alan Henry. I guess 2007 was the last year a SAL was caught there. Why do you think it just stopped producing SAL's. I assume all the SAL's and their fry were returned to AH. Obviously the genetics are or were there. Just curious as to what happened?
Thanks Rob

I was out there today. What I have been told is that the spotted bass have taken over the lake. I'm guessing to many spots= not enough LMB. That being said there are still some huge fish in the lake.

I read that it was caught with a live sunfish. How do you rig a live perch? Do you hook it in the back like a minnow or through the lips?
