This it the large CFS from Mary's. We took this photo just because a site like this does'nt happen very often. Enjoy Oh by the way I cleaned my plate. See how they don't waste a lot of room with the salad?

Ate at Mary's in Strawn last night for my birthday. 7 of us drove from Azle to Strawn for the food. A buddy that went with us had no clue as to where Strawn was and when we pulled up he was like we drove an hour and a half for this? When we walked in a waitress was walking by with a CFS and his eyes lit up like a kids on Christmas morning. He too now knows the wonderment of a giant CFS and the Coldest Shiner in all the land. Still the champ IMO.

Another vote for Parisos. I've only been there once but it gets my vote too as one of the best. Don't forget to try the stale chips while you are there. The restaurant across the street from El Parisito has the same exact menu and the same stale chips. Two Rows makes a good one. Anyone been to Norma's in Oak Cliff?

Is Norma's still around? I thought it turned into a Mexican place or something. When I used to go to it it was sure good.

Dixie House in Ftworth/Hulen whichever..... Isnt that the same as The Black eyed pea. Its good but the batter is twice the size of the meat.

I could be wrong, but I believe that the Black Eyed Pea and the Dixie House are owned by different people... I agree about the breading on the CFS at the BEP. Never been to the DH although I hear it's good.

The reason I think they are the same is because some friends who moved to Ft Worth took me to this "cool new (to them) place they found" I laughed when we got there cause my menu said Black eyed Pea on the back. They were crushed. Not a problem to have BEP has great pot roast and rolls.

The BEP and Dixie House, back in the 70's, was originated, owned and ran by James Street. The original restaraunts were, for the BEP on Oak Lawn and the Dixie House was on NW Highway across from Bachman Lake.

What about Good Eats? Says their CFS voted da best at State Fair of Texas & D magazine. I see now they have a spicey Poblano pepper CFS topped with red pepper cream gravy. Now thats some serious stuff right there

The one I'm talking about has 3 or 4 locations now around Ft. Worth. Found their webpage... http://dixiehousecafe.com

Gothcha! When folks started putting the Dixie House and the Blackeyed Pea together was what led me in that direction.

Big T's in Kilgore, TX is my favorite. I try to get there every time I see the folks in Longview. Without a doubt the best CFS comes from Big T's in Kilgore. When I lived there $4.25 would get you a CFS two sides and a glass of tea. I am sure the price has gone up by now. If you go for lunch get there early or you may not get a seat.

Goodson's in Tomball and Cowboy Steakhouse in Kerrville. I've been eatin' CFS all over this state for almost 70 years and these are the two best I've found. When I say all over this state, I really mean ALL over this state.
