Ive been watching the stocking dates the last few days.
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/management/stocking/trout_stocking.phtml

I havent seen any Lubbock lakes listed, hoping it was just an oversight I called TPWD this morning. No such luck,Lubbock will not receive any trout for 08-09 season soap

Couldnt give any reasons.First time since I can remember we have not gotten any trout.

I was just looking into this myself, and was really surprised to find that there would be no stocking here this year. It's nice that they "couldn't give any reasons", considering that we pay for this in our license fees. Well, I know we can't always expect stockings, but we at least deserve an explanation as to why.

That sucks. It is typical of Texas govt though. West Texas has to scratch and claw for everything we get. What will really make you mad is looking at the amount of public land there is available to people in other parts of the state compared to area on the South Plains/Panhandle.

The only thing she did say was when a location doesnt receive a stocking, its usually due to water quality or a "city" not participating..... hummmm

That is suprising with all the play a lakes you have there. We get stockings at two lakes here in Amarillo, though I didn't catch jack today.

How long has this trout stocking been going on in Tx? Anybody know where the best places to trout fish around San Antonio are?

It goes through march. I have the best luck in the Guadalupe river. They stock millers pond every 2 weeks but its been hit or miss for me. They like garlic cheese/corn. Not my normal baits for trout

I get my limit every time in about an hour using peach colored power bait, if I can't get my hands on power bait my second bait is cheap biscuit dough from a can.

Around San Antonio I would say hit Canyon Dam Tailrace...The most trout in the entire state are stocked here. There are a few access points down river, but the Dam is a sure bet for ya.

little advice, when there are lots of folks wading about...find a nice little spot and stay put, they will chase the trout to you, I promise. I usually find a nice little hole( some eddy, drop off, natural barrier, etc) Have always managed a limit!

as far as tackle, go small, smaller the better! Panther Martin spinners 1/32 ounce, you can literally "troll" them in the oddest places, by just standing upstream and allowing the lure to spin just 10 feet away. The fish sometimes hold VERY tight to cover(rock piles especially)Almost every small pool or current break will do the trick, good luck!

My guess is that because hardly anybody fished for them last year, they decided they weren't going to stock them this year. What they don't realize is that people were fishing for them quite heavily, but the trout just never would cooperate, so everyone gave up on fishing for them. They just chose a horrible lake to put them in is all.

No fish is too good for the grease.

How do you get to The Lewisville Trailrace? I didn't think there was access?
