Would like to buy a RV that I can pull my boat behind. Boat is 23' long from the tip of the boat trailer hitch to the outside edge of the outboard. Will be using a 2500, 4 dr., short bed Dodge to pull it with.

Am I correct in assuming they measure the full length of the trailer and boat? How persickiny are they? Would like to buy a 30' 5th wheel, but I don't think I keep it within the 85' limit.

A 30' 5th wheeler is usually around 32' but even with that you should not be over your 85'. The thing that would concern me is the truck. Is it gasoline or diesel? If it is gas you will be taxing it.

When did they raise the length limit to 85', it use to be 65'? A A friend of mine use to pull tandem with a Chevy V8 and a Dodge V10 without any problems. I pulled with a Ford 390 V8. We stayed under 65' while on the road.

I believe it is 65' in Texas....I pull a 27' fifth wheel towing a 20' Champion with my '02 2500 Duramax with no problems. I am 1-1/2 feet over the 65' limit but have never had any problems. I had always heard that as long as I stayed in Texas with the rig, I wouldn't get hassled. Just haev to make sure you don't get stuck where you might have to back-up or turn-around in a tight area....not gonna work.
Good luck!

Guess I was having a senior moment as my mind was thinking 65 but wishing 85. My fingers followed my wishes. It is a Dodge diesel that I will be pulling it with. Not too concerned with that, but the length. Would probably be at about 66.5'.

Anyway thanks to all of you who corrected the length.

Me too. Wish I had a slide in camper. 2005 cb, long wb, duramax with 31ft fifth wheel and 18 foot boat (22ft from ball to back of motor). I need to hook it all up and see what it does measure out to. I may risk it for parks/lakes within 100 miles.
