Someone told me that the wood structure at the head of the Surfside jetty burned to the ground last night. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,
Happy Thanksgiving

Yes it has burned totally down to the ground. I was there Saturday and was shocked to see it still smoldering with hot spots burning. I wonder what happened. It's sad! The area has changed alot with the removal of the Zeus (rig), jetty park building burned to a crisp and the surrounding area beaten up by Ike. Blue Water Highway is a mess.

Yea, I drove down to the beach house last night and saw the carnage. It stank like hell too. Those bathrooms were always pretty nasty, add some heat and kayowzza!

Cabins at Jetty Park destroyed by fire

When firefighters arrived at Jetty Park at 4 a.m. Thursday, nearby cabins already were engulfed and they were unable to stop the blaze from destroying them, Surfside Beach Assistant Fire Chief Chris Jeannott said.

There was no one in the cabins at the time of the fire and no one was hurt fighting the flames, he said.

Officials do not know what caused the fire, but believe it likely was caused by electrical problems, County Fire Marshal Al Priselac said. Officials found no sign of arson, he said.

The cabins in the 300 block of Park View Drive, were owned by the county and recently had been renovated, Jeannott said.

Jeannott thanked Freeport, Oyster Creek and Clute volunteer fire departments for responding to the fire.
