Does any reel maker for any price make an ultra light bait casting reel capable of using 4# mono and throwing 1/8 or smaller jigs?

Wow, that is some technology with a price to go with it. let narrow the category down to baitcaster for ultra light under $100.

I would think that you could just find a really light action rod and pair it with a low profile reel of your choice. I have never had a problem throwing 1/8 and even 1/16 oz baits with my baitcasters. Revo's seems to handle the light weight better than any reel that i own.

You shouldn't forget the Conquest 50 or the shallow spool (for light braid) Conquest 50S. They are both pretty wonderful down to 1/8oz. and more capable than either the Pixy or Presso at over 1/4oz.
Also, the Presso has a different type of braking setup...more designed as a trout reel for casting light weights a long way. The Pixy is more versatile and almost as far. A Pixy with a beefed up drag makes a wonderful pitchin' or flippin' reel. The Conquest is a little Sherman tank in a Swiss watch suit...get one and you'll know what I'm talking about.

You can also use the Daiwa Advantage HSTA or the Diawa Excelor. I use them both for light baits like 1/8 oz buzzbaits and I throw them a pretty good distance with either.

So, what kind of rod will you use to throw those small baits? A few of my personal favorites: Megabass F0-60X Elese - Moderate action, gr8 topwater and 1/8oz. cranks. Daiko Burroughs BRSC-64L - Extra fast tip, gr8 finesse plastics...love this stick a lot with a Conquest 50S and 2/10 PPro...wonderful light split shot rod. GLoomis CR721 IMX - Heaviest of these three but more of a backbone for light jigs and such.

i used to fish a ryobi vmag3 with a pistol grip browning silaflex 5' rod back in the good ole days. never used 4 lb test but i did use 6 or 8. It worked really well for smaller baits and long casts until i got into log distance competitions with myself and buried a tiny torpedo to the shank in my skull. The impact hurt worse than cutting it out of my head with the rusty old timer. still was a pretty cool set up back in the day.

I use just a plain ole ambasseduer 4600c3 for throwing light baits, I live at Lake Meredith and fish walleye as well as bass and light line is key to fishing walleye.

I've always been a fan of baitcasters with light line and small lures.
2 of the best reels that I have used are both Shimanos. Curado 100b and a old Bantam 10 SG. My Curado 100b currently has 10 lb.line and the Bantam has 8 lb. line. No problem throwing 1/8 or even 1/16oz lures. Just adjust the drag with the lighter line.
Either of these and a 6 1/2ft medium action will do good.

IMO the Daiwa PX Type R (Pixy) is the only reel on the American market made for that.

You are asking a lot for that $100. Can you use a LH reel? If so, the Curado 51E should do it. I had mine out for about an hour last week. Throws a 3/16 oz. spinnerbait pretty far, and I am by no means an expert yet with baitcasting reels. (Just switched over to them last year.) $120 on closeout at tacklewarehouse. EDIT: This is with 8lb. line. I'll try some 6 lb. next time it needs re-spooling.

Shimano Citica, I can sling 1/16 oz quite far. I would love to see a Citica do that. I've seen Pixys struggle to cast something that light.

I would personally check eBay for a nice used Fuego or Sol from Daiwa. They run normally between $100-$150 and would more than suffice with what you want it for. If you want to cough up an extra couple hundred bones, you can look into the Alphas and Pixys from Daiwa.
