Thanks Rex. I wonder if Cat's Whiskers would be good there too? I have a few egg type flies...but not sure what you mean by a bead head egg pattern. I have several types of nymphs, san juan worms, zebra midges, that type of thing. I have several trout like flies, and some dry flies too. I will make some more woolly buggers. Thanks guys for all the tips. I want my son to catch some fish, and get hooked on fly fishing. He had his first lesson today, and did good. I spent about an hour working with him so he should be able to fish next time we go, which may even be tomorrow.

Annual nonresident fishing license is required for nonresidents who take, attempt to take or possess fish or other aquatic dwelling organisms by any method in Oklahoma. Exemptions include nonresidents under 14, and nonresidents under 16 who are residents of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin. Residents of Texas who are 64 years of age or older are also exempt.
your 15 year old will not need a liscense, but will have to get a trout stamp (10 dollars)

if you make more than 2 trips to oklahoma in a year, you might as well buy the license for one year, regardless you have to have a trout permit (there is also a youth trout permit) and a "legacy permit" these are good for a year and are in addition to a NR license https://www.wildlifedepartment.com/onlinesales/LicenseDescription.asp

Ok, so he will need a trout stamp, bummer. I figured he was a minor, and I wouldn't have to buy anything for him like that. Good thing I asked then!!! Yes, I guess I will have to get a year license, it would be worth it in the long run. I just thought I'd ask for the heck of it if I could fish at that state park for free. You know all states should do like Texas does, sure would be nice anyways. I think 17 year olds should not need a license, but they do here. I figure that parents are already paying out the rear for everything, and paying for kids like they are adults is just another got-ya I don't need. They need to have mercy on us...lol.

By the way the OK license is for the calendar year. That means that it will expire Dec 31, even if you buy it in Nov.
There is a little bit of good news, OK does not have an entrance fee for the state park.

OH MY. Well dang, man I would be ticked if I found out I bought a year long license that lasted just a couple of months.
Well, at least there was one bit of good news. That made me smile...hehehe.

Spillway Creek is a nice, smaller area to wade and fish. Not as daunting as the river itself as far as wading and falling in etc.

The Spillway really seems to benefit from more stocking pounds than the rest of the areas. It appears that all of the logs creating those wonderful pools have been damaged by the flood - typically now only one log of the two that formed the V's is now still in place. The Park Wardens were definitely working last weekend - lights flashing. But I never saw a Game Warden --- and there didn't seem to be much worry about folks going over their limits since it had been pounded pretty hard. I like staying in the Hickory campground as it is a short walk to the Evening Hole. Last week was Oklahoma Public School's "Fall Break", so campgrounds were packed as previously noted. shannon

tip- if you get into town late, get your license at walmart so u can fish early and that way you dont have to burn good fishin time up.. just tell the person in the fron to send someone back to get you one. otherwise u will sit there all night waiting for someone to come back and help.... learned my lesson once.
