Reel Recoverys website has some good info on their upcoming retreat for cancer patients, and I was impressed by their organization.

From their website I determined:

Mission Statement:

Key Staff:

You will note that Executive Director Stan Golub, prior to joining Reel Recovery, was Associate Director of Casting for Recovery, a successful program for women fly fishers recovery.

Board:

Advisory board member is President of Lance Armstrong Cancer Foundation.
The retreat is being partially funded by the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.

My near term goal in this program is to assist in any way I can for immediate needs at the upcoming retreat in Boerne.
I intend make a modest contribution.

I encourage others, in addition to current participating forum members, to contribute if they wish, to this worthwhile program.

OK guys it is time to get those donations of flies off to Warren. I had some foam spiders already tied, and I found a few dozen of Rich Hart's Ghost Minnows that I had tied sometime before, so I put them in an envelope with some cap Spiders and will post them when the post office opens Friday morning. I am very proud that these three simple patterns all catch a bunch of fish and hope that these guys will get a smile on their face while using them.

Well I have finished my box, I could add a couple more flies tomorrow. Tonight I decided to try some Jitterbees, and I added a few to the box. I put some Bream Killers in there, and a few soft hackle spider type flies...Partridge and Yellow...etc... I hope they like them all, and catch some fish. If I don't forget, I will go to the post office tomorrow and send them off.

My flies went out today, I hope they enjoy them, and catch a bunch of fish!

lately all my success has come has come from dahlberg diver type bugs, so i sent a dozen white & a dozen other assorted colors, i have gotten side-tracked a couple times & didn't get to tie as many as i wanted to, i will start now for next year.

Hey Dale, what type bead head (size etc..) did you use on those Ghost Minnows anyhow? My biggest bead is about half of what I need, maybe not even that. If you made them for Reel Recovery, they must be a good fly to have...hehehe.

If Big Dale tied it up for Reel Recovery, yes it had to be good. So I am gonna make some...hehehe. I know what they look like, I just need to duplicate it.

Kelly: Sorry, but I don't remember it was so long ago that I tied them. Seems like I tied them on a Mustad 3366 in a size 4, so whatever fit on that after I bent the barb down. When you tie these please remember that when developing the pattern, Rich found that the sparser he tied them the better they worked.

Got ya on the sparseness. I will just have to try and guess. You sure have a good memory on patterns, and who tied them etc...
You have even met a lot of these people. That is awesome.

I could not sleep, so I tried a few beads on a few hooks and found that the 5/32 hooks fit on a size 4 Mustad 3366 once the barb is bent down, but I prefer the 3/16 size cyclops beads on that hook size and reserve the 5/32 beads for the smaller hooks. I also use the Mustad 3407 size 4 hook for this pattern and the size of the beads work the same way for these hooks.

Rich and his wife Lauren used to have a fly shop they ran out of their house in Granbury. When you called, Lauren most often had a kid on her hip and you could hear the dog in the background. You had to be careful and always call them calftails as the dog was named Kip. This is another case of a very gracious wife where Rich was allowed to think it was his shop and while he was off "guiding" clients or fishing, and she was dealing with suppliers and customers.

They once had a Cow Pasture Fly Tying Festival were one of the contests was to see who could tie a fly, rig a rod, cross a fence, go down to the pond and cast a fly to see who could do it the quickest. I thought they could have included catching a fish. That day I won the raffle for a box of flies tied by Charlie Cypert and I could have not been happier if I had won the box of flies tied by Billy Munn. I miss that shop.

I think one of the most cool things about our chosen hobby is that there are so many good folks with similar interests out there.

Have fun with this stuff.
