I have a 1986 150 Johnson in the shop with a mess up vro pump. It has been in the shop for 3 weeks because the new pump is on back order and no telling when it will come in. My question is should i wait for the new vro pump or convert it to where i mix my oil and gas myself? Would it be safer to mix my own oil with my gas because it is an older motor? My bill will be the same on what ever i choose to do.
(I'm a college angler in need of a boat for club tournament on Hubbard Creek if mine is not fixed in time)
Thanks,
Lance

1st. off that pump is not on backorder. 2nd. It's a matter of personal preference as to whether or not you want the auto oiling system. Only you can make the decision. 3rd. It sure as h--- doesn't cost about the same if your going to disconnect the system compaired to replaceing it. It is simular in cost if you replace the VRO with the fuel pump that doesn't have the oiling system built into it, or you're replacing with a pair of manuel fuel pumps.......

Second what Mike said. Somethings wrong with this picture. Also they can get a repair kit (diaphram) for the pump. I know a bunch of boats that they did nothing but disconnect and remove the oil system and start pre-mixing. What was the problem wih the vro pump?

they are telling me that i got ahold of some bad gas with high levels of ethanol and ruined my vro pump where they can not repair it.
