my throttle cable on my 96 mercury 150 has gone bad, and i was thinking about putting on a hot foot. how hard are they to put on? do you just take the old cable off and mount the pedel to the floor ,and does a new hoot foot come with the cable?

Your 1/2 right. You disconnect the cable from the throttle box, especially since yours has gone bad, then most of the time, a new cable that is 2 foot longer will be required for the hotfoot. Mount the new cable to the hot foot the hot foot to the floor, connect the cable to the engine, and blaze off into the sunset....lol

shouldn't need to disconnect from the control box. just get the part number off the old cable and buy a new one 2 feet longer. connect to the engine and run it to the hot foot.
easy as 1,2,3.

don't forget to adjust the hotfoot. we all know your gonna want full throttle, but at idle you'll wont to make sure the idle stop is seated. loc-tite is a good idea.[ the blue stuff, not forever red ]
Good Luck

UH UH...he said the cable was bad. It could put undue stress on the control box by leaving it on and cause the box to lock up. At least cut it off, say about 2 ft from the control box. That way the connection inside the control box stays aligned...........and your right about the adjustment part, I figured it was just understood.......sorry!

yeah, your right Mike. didn't think about it possibly being in a bind.
i must say, if it were mine, and i had to take the control box apart, i would put in a NEW cable and route to the engine and leave it loose.
then run another (longer) cable to the hot foot. that way you'll have a back up incase something breaks.
