Hello everyone,
I'm new to these forums and I've been searching them for the past couple days. I'm looking for advice from a knowledgeable person willing to take the time to explain a few things to me. I plan to take my son fishing/camping at Possum Kingdom sometime this month. The recent report from the TPWD website says:
Water stained; 79 degrees; 2.01' low. Black bass are good on main lake points with red jigs, watermelon Senkos, white chatterbaits or spinnerbaits, and silver crankbaits in 3-15 feet. Crappie are slow on small white and yellow jigs worked along deep wood structure in 6-10 feet. White bass are excellent on spoons, Little George's and silver Rat-L-Traps while schooling along rocky points. Striped bass are good on live shad and large shad colored topwaters below the dam. Catfish are excellent on live shad, cut bait, worms and liver along the river channel on the north end and below the dam.
Since I'm just looking for an easy catch, I'm focusing on the white bass since the report says "excellent". So, what is a 'spoon', little george, etc. Where are these rocky points and how can I tell if they're schooling when I don't have a fish finder? Also, please explain the lingo referring the the striped and black bass. We have a canoe and just need to know when/where to go (we have no GPS) and what to do. Of course, tips like how to set the hook with these species and other techniques are also quite helpful. I could also use your recommendations on hook size/type & line selection. (With regard to the catfish, their location is likely too far from where we'll be)
Your help is humbly appreciated.
Thanks!
