i just bought a boat which is GPS-capable (a round white hub on the back of the boat, i think). the boat does not have a working fish finder, and i want to get one. i want a GPS-capable fish and depth finder, but dont know how all this ties together??? if i get a fish finder w/ GPS, will it plug into the GPS stuff on the boat?? or does it find it thru radar somehow???

also, does anyone have a decent used old fish finder w/ GPS that are selling? any information would be appreciated. basically, i want to be able to map the lake i'm on, plot my coordinates, save my locations for future reference, and save good fishing spots, etc. i need to know how to work this altogether, and what to buy, in order to get this working. thanks

IMO you should start from scratch and just buy the whole kit together from Bass Pro Shop or Academy. It comes with the transducer, transducer cable and the unit. You'll still have to buy the unit mount ( recommend Ram) and the SD card (chip) for your particular geographic location (recommend Navionics--$99 at Academy). Matching up the cables, even with the same brand is a dicey thing and rarely works unless you get lucky and have the model for those particular cables.
