So, my trailer lights stopped working a while back...well, they worked, but either blinker just blinked both lights, and the no brake lights at all.

I get fed up with messing with them and bought a new LED system. I completely rewired the trailer with the new lights and everything. I plug them in and they don't work. I check my fuses in my truck and one is blown, so I replace it...still don't work. I try another vehicle to see if its my truck...no luck. Its all brand new! Installed exactly as the diagram showed. What gives?

Grounding problem?

99.999% of the time, it's a grounding problem!

Ground the truck side of the plug, then ground the trailer side of the plug. Don't rely on the ball for a common ground.

Okay...I'll give it a shot. Now...I'm not sure, but this may be a dumb question...when wiring it up, I didn't put the trailer on the ball, I just had the truck backed up close enough to plug in. Could this be part of the problem? I think I have the wires grounded correctly to the trailer...and I'm assuming that the factory-installed plug on my truck is grounded correctly.

You may be surprised if you'll put the trailer on the ball.

If both are grounded correctly you shouldn't have to. If the lights come on when you put the trailer on the ball then the trailer ground is the issue.

Not yet I don't think. I am still in Albuquerque but I have my neighbor keeping keeping an eye out for them.

PS. That is what my dad calls them too.

Yup, ground. I also go so far as to hook the white wire to a good ground on the vehicle and the trailer. When a receiver hitch gets rusty inside and there is a little grease on the ball, the white wire eliminates grounding problems.

If the ball is old and rusty try a piece of steel wool on top of the ball before putting the trailer tongue down on the ball. As you drive to the lake it will shine the inside of trailer tongue and top of ball(no elbow grease required).
