This is right after I did the morning feeding. I never get tired of watching them eat.

Enjoy...

fishlady,
That is awesome.
You think Texas will ever have a fishable population like Oklahoma has/is striving for? I noticed Oklahoma even has turned it into a money making idea for the State with egg harvesting trucks at the more popular snagging locations.

I don't see that happening in Texas any time soon. Since the only decent population is in the Red, I don't think it's going to happen.

great video

Not that I'm against it but I'm not sure if I'd consider "snagging" actual fishing. I tried it in OK as a kid and snagged every kind of fish except for paddlefish.

The basic technique is to find where they run upstream to spawn and get stuck at dams, and tear a large leaded treble hook through the water.

I agree with you 100% Tony. There really isn't a good way to catch these guys, which is fine with me. This is the one fish I respect too much to ever target with a rod and reel.

so the ones that people catch on rod and reel are all snagged then?

looks like a basking shark (except for the spoon bill)

Because they filter feed, the only way to catch them on rod and reel is to snag them.

They look very similar to sharks and are mostly cartilagenous, except for the jaw bone.

If they snag them I'm guessing that they keep them and consume them right?

Not in Texas. They are a threatened species and protected. If you happen to snag one (which snagging is illegal in itself), you better put it back ASAP. Huge ticket if you don't and get caught.

Yeah... I got the Illegal part in Texas...I'm talking about the Oklahoma peeps. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I guess since I've never tried to snag anything in 30 years of fishing, that must be the reason I've never seen a paddle fish in Texas. Only question I was asking was if they,(the people in Oklahoma and places Legal to snag)CONSUME them.
