well I checked out the new launch Sunday. Pretty nice... It was still about a 75 yard walk down to the water but I was able to carry my tarpon 160 down without much trouble.

It was my first time on the trinity and wasnt sure what to expect. I have to say I was quite suprised. lots of slow deep water but also plenty of shallow riffles with some almost reaching rapid status. My goal was to paddle upstream to the water treatment outfall. I had to walk the yak through several shallow fast sections probably 5 times but made it up there in about 3 hours. I fished quite a bit on the way up so it probably could have been done in 2 hours if you really pushed it.

As far as the fishing, I ended up catching about 10 bass up to about 1.5 pounds, a channel cat around 2 pounds, and numerous sunfish (all small). Saw hundreds of carp in the shallow streches feeding. next time I will have to bring some sweet corn. also saw about a 4 foot long blue cat in about 4 feet of water. on the way back had a bobcat crawl down the bank less than 30 yards away from me. I paddled along side of him for a couple of minutes and it never even looked at me...

definitely worth another trip...

Dang, that sounds like a great trip. I've always heard there's a lot of bobcats along that stretch. I think I've been driving too far for my canoe trips.

well, I guess clean is a relative term... It was definitely alot clearer than I expected. near the water treatment outfall there I could see the bottom in 3 to 4 feet of water. farther east the clarity was closer to 1 to 2 feet. There was suprisingly little trash and litter along the banks. compared to white rock creek (not saying much) it was a pristine wilderness... that being said it is hard to think of it as clean water when in the back of you mind you know you are just a few hundred yards south of a massive landfill as well as seeing a large volume of water flowing into the river from a water treatment facility. I know water clarity doesnt equal clean and that just because a landfill is nearby doesnt mean its dirty...

lets just say I wont be keeping any fish to eat but I would like to do more paddling out there...

I put in at Beach street a couple years ago after a rain. As I went past the land fill you could see where the water had washed away dirt exposing garbage bags and water rinsing thru the garbage running into the river was as black as it could be. I'd say catch and release for sure.
