After getting skunked last month, we were vindicated with a great weekend. Friday morning the water was rough, we headed out of ConnBrown over to Port A. The ride heading out to the jetties was pretty rough, once out, it was real rough. Thankfully the highsides of the Bayrunner kept us dry.

We tried a few spots, finally ended over at the North Jetty.
Caught two Spacks, 9reds btwn 24-28, several released, a few snapper.

Saturday we head my buddy's son and his friend in the boat. They caught 4 reds in about 10mins. We had 4 hookups at once. The action was hot, so much so that one boat went Team Red and anchored close enough for me to hit the motor with my rod.

About an hour into it, I hooked up with a 4ft Tarpon. Jumping and thrashing I finally boated him. The net was too small, old and worn, it broke as he was going in the boat. Caught him on a dead mullet, cheap Cabelas Salt Striker, using a 20lb fluro leader and a #10 treble. Never intended to target one, that is for sure. It was my first and gotta say what a rush. Only thing is I wish I had caught it my rod, but it was sitting in the holder sans a handle that was left in the van. Just goes to show you don't have to have an expensive custom rod. But that fish came in on a wing and a prayer cause that rod/reel has seen better days.

We ended the day back in the bay catching trout and small reds. Along with running aground a few times =)

The fish are out there, it was pretty much as easy as baiting, dropping it down and reeling in. For once, we were "those guys" catching fish. Unlike the usual of watching everyone else do it while we try every trick in the book. Can't wait to get back. Pics hopefully soon

I was "on" the south port A jetty Saturday (10-4-08) afternoon from 6 until dark. I saw a few nice reds caught. My girl hooked up with a good one but a malfunctioning reel caused her to break off the 30lb test line we were using. I wish I'd had a boat to be out there in the channel but the waves looked pretty big. I saw several boats fishing the north jetty side. They must have been catching because they didn't move while I was there.
