Ironically, I was on a private message exchange with a local forum/website owner here in Georgia, named Mike Bucca. Mike spent some time in our area of Texas and came to know several people (Thad Rains and a few more names from earlier times). During the exchange Mike asked if I knew Sherry to which my reply was yes. He gave me the link to her Blog and told me she was on her final leg with her battle with Pancreatic Cancer
www.sherryruslink.com . I went there and read one of the last updates from her daughter, Shelly, and I read the last thing Sherry put in there around August 31. I am a big old boy, but I could feel the tears welling up in me as I read the Blog. I am sure there are many folks that knew her a lot better than I did, but the times I spent working with her to help get the Bassin' Gal Bass Club off the ground, and working with her many years ago when she worked at LTV (Vought Aircraft) when I came out from California for Northrop B-2 Bomber program. I remember running into her at Lake Fork Marina some mornings when we stopped in for Breakfast. She was always good for big ol hug and a friendly "How ya'll doing? Fishing's been pretty good the last few days! You got here at the right time!". That's been a few years back now, but I'm sure she still greeted many a friend the same way.
I guess, I can say that I wish I would've stayed in touch with her a little better. I do ask for your prayers for a good person who did a lot for this great sport we enjoy! I will continue to pray for a miracle, but I know if she goes on, then the Good Lord must have some fishing planned and needs a good guide! God Bless Sherry Ruslink!
