Ironically, I was on a private message exchange with a local forum/website owner here in Georgia, named Mike Bucca. Mike spent some time in our area of Texas and came to know several people (Thad Rains and a few more names from earlier times). During the exchange Mike asked if I knew Sherry to which my reply was yes. He gave me the link to her Blog and told me she was on her final leg with her battle with Pancreatic Cancer www.sherryruslink.com . I went there and read one of the last updates from her daughter, Shelly, and I read the last thing Sherry put in there around August 31. I am a big old boy, but I could feel the tears welling up in me as I read the Blog. I am sure there are many folks that knew her a lot better than I did, but the times I spent working with her to help get the Bassin' Gal Bass Club off the ground, and working with her many years ago when she worked at LTV (Vought Aircraft) when I came out from California for Northrop B-2 Bomber program. I remember running into her at Lake Fork Marina some mornings when we stopped in for Breakfast. She was always good for big ol hug and a friendly "How ya'll doing? Fishing's been pretty good the last few days! You got here at the right time!". That's been a few years back now, but I'm sure she still greeted many a friend the same way.
I guess, I can say that I wish I would've stayed in touch with her a little better. I do ask for your prayers for a good person who did a lot for this great sport we enjoy! I will continue to pray for a miracle, but I know if she goes on, then the Good Lord must have some fishing planned and needs a good guide! God Bless Sherry Ruslink!

I personally didn't know Sherry very well but the short time I have met with her she was very inspirational to me. She is a small lady with a heart bigger than Texas. She probably has more to do with me guiding than anyone and in fact I think she is one of the very first full time LADY guides that I know of?

Sherry we love you and are praying for you and your family!

I spent a lot of years at Val's Landing and met Sherry just in passing but just being around the people at Fork in those days you knew she was a very well liked and respected angler but more importantly person. Just sad when you hear of someone so well liked having problems. Prayers sent.

Sherry & Bill are GREAT people, I spent many a day on the water with her and even got Bill out a few times.
I knew she was having some issues but have lost touch the last few years.
My prayers go out to her and the family.

Prayers sent For Sherry and Family in this most difficult time.

Bob, I remember the Bass-N-Gals too. I used to stop by and visit
when the office was on Roosevelt street just off Pioneer in Arlington back in the 80's ol Sugar Ferris and Sherry and few others. All wonderful folks and very personable..
I can recall how excited they all were about the trail.

Bob and Mike,

Thanks for letting us know about Sherry. We were good friends for a while. i LOVED listening to her and Bill and just laughing. Prayers sent.

We also lost another of the BASS N GALS and TFF member earlier this year. CJ Jenkins passed away from a long bout with cancer. She will also be missed dearly. We miss you Judi!

Sherry, GOD SPEED and get better.

Respectfully,

Thad Rains

I got to know Sherry back when she was writing articles for the Outdoor Times, guiding on Fork and was friends with the lady who owned the Lake Fork Area News. My wife at the time decided to take one of Sherry's "Ladys in the Outdoors" classes and come to find out my ex and Sherrys daughter were close friends when they were both in Jr. High. Sherry took my ex under her wing and had big hopes for her to start tournament fishing with Sherry. My ex wanted to keep it fun and just didn't share the passion that Sherry had for fishing. I spent a few weekends at Fork with Sherry at her trailer at LakeView Lodge and I recall not attending one of the Rallys at Fork because I was at Sherrys painting the house she and Bill bought up on the N/E end of Fork. Sherry was the one that taught me how to run Fork in the early 90's and spent many days just letting me follow her around the lake learning the boat lanes. That was back before they had any type of buoy system.

It broke my heart to read the blog when it was emailed to me by Connie K. Sherry was always a pistol and was vibrant beyond words. It hurts knowing the pain she's in on a daily basis. As she's asked in her blogs, I'm keeping her, Bill and her kiddos in my prayers.
