Nice fish. What kind of rod/reel do you have the kids using? Reason I'm asking is because my 6yo boy wants his own rod/reel and I am not sure what to get him that would be easy for him to handle. We prefer to throw a mullet on a hook and let it set until something gets it. my boy has only been fishing with me for a few months and I want to get him on a good sized fish. that would just make his day.

Nathan is fishing a 9 foot two piece that I built for him. His reel is a old Shimano Bantam 50 with a mag control on the left sideplate. He throws it great..

Bullred,
BHP is Bob Hall Pier. It is located on North Padre Island. I do not fish the pier but I do fish the beach. Be careful with little ones when driving south of the pier. It isn't legal but you might get an eye full of skin(mainly men)2-3 miles south of the pier.
When I take my family down, I take the last beach access road before the entrance to Padre Island National Seashore, this will lead you to the North Sticks of Padre Island National Seashore. This way I bypass all the "stuff" that my kids don't need to see.

Hey Buddah,
went down there this morning for a couple of hours and did not have much luck. i got there and about ten minutes after I get my lines in the water, the guy next to me catches the biggest bull red i've ever seen. easily over 40 inches. nice place though and will take the kids there next weekend and hopefully the reds will really be runnin. thanks for the directions.
