I'm not a very good fish identifier, but the local pond is stocked with lots of little white blue gill type fish now. I caught one at another pond, and just threw it back before really got to thinking what it was, this one was pretty good sized. Of course this was a couple of years ago, and I didn't think much about it till now. They still have pretty small mouths, and look normal as far as the body shape goes, maybe a little longer... It would be nice if no one keeps or kills these things and they would actually get big, me and my 8 year old just like catching and releasing (and admiring!) the fish when we go out.

Probably a tilapia. There are blue ones and white ones around here and they get to be nice sizes. They're great to eat, also. Check out this website and pics: http://search.live.com/images/results.aspx?q=white+tilapia+pictures&mkt=en-us.

Especially outside of spawn season and for younger fish, some bluegill can be almost completely white.

Shad couldnt live in a pond. The picture is of a shad but thats not the fish he is catching, someone else posted that.

If the pond isnt healthy the fish could lose their color kind of like an aquarium with bad ph balances. I dont know, thats just a guess.

I would love to see a pic of this fish you speak of.

I've caught smaller bluegill that are much whiter, but here is one over 7 inches from LL during the spawn.

At least bigger ponds can hold gizzard shad.

Yes shad can live in a pond. My friend has a pond behind his grandparents house and fishes there. He catches shad with a cast net and uses em for bait.

I should have taken a picture of one today, I forgot. There are less of them in there now, they seem a little longer than the normal ones (like Tony posted) and the fins are a little different too. I don't think I have ever seen Tilapia, that could be it? They aren't crappie. They also have some vertical stripes on them through the middle. I googled Tilapia, and they do resemble these somewhat. They also are in deeper water, and feeding on the bottom, as well in the shallow water too.

Drum? I caught a 2lb drum today. The look like carp in the mouth but very thin body. I caught a small one and it looked like a bluegill body but almost pure white.

Shad can indeed live in a pond, and a gravel pit, hell, even a bar ditch! Seen em in all 3, and they were doing quite well. Makes the bass in the same ponds that much fatter!

Could be shad....but not likely they would regularly bite as you described. Could be Tilapia, but also not likely because they are never uniformly white, in my experience.
Could be sand bass but, they are not a common pond fish and don't generally spawn in a pond.

Most likely its small blue gill. I've seen them just as you described many times. When small, they often don't have any color....especially copper nosed blue gill.

If it was a pond in Arlington then it is Tilapia for sure. Most of the ponds there have white tilapia in them. When juvenile they are almost pink they are so white. Plus they get vertical bars as the get older
