Mine is an 05 with no chip. I get 20 unloaded out of town, 15-17 pulling a 2.5' Champ and 10-11 pulling a 12,000# 5th wheel trailer.

I have an 03 2WD Extendcab shortbed. I get low 20's unloaded on highway. 17.5-18.5 in town unloaded. With my 19 foot bluewave I get 17.5 on highway. With my 36 foot 5th wheel which is a hair over 13k pounds I get 10.5 to 11.5 depending on if I can keep it at a relatively even speed. If I'm on say I-35 going down to the coast and I keep it around 70 mph I can get almost 12. If I get in the hills forget it. I've hauled all my gear with both Gas and Duramax. The diesel is the only way I will ride until they find something better. My running buddies run Ford and Dodge diesels and we all get the same mileage loaded with almost identical gear. Unloaded is where I shine. Neither of my friends can get over 19.5 mpg on the highway unloaded. My Father in law has a new crewcab Z71 Duramax 2500hd and he's getting better than 16 on the highway pulling an old champion bass boat and knowing him he's probably doing around 85-90 going down the road.

Thanks for the replies folks!
I was kickking around the idea of calling up Mr. Monte Coon, but after thinking about it I've decided to hang on to what I've got, she'll be paid for next month so I think I see what its like to not have a truck payment for a while!

That and dont just believe everything people tell you about what kind of milleage their trucks get. My dad and brother both drive duramaxes, and while they will see 20mpg, it aint an everyday ocurence. If all you do is highway driving with an empty truck yoyu might. Also from my experience the towing milleage doesnt hold up that well either. If I remember right you have a dodge right now, if it is milleage you are lookin for you better hold on to it.

Why would you want a new truck when your 2003 gets 27 mpg???

I have seen 27mpg out of it. The conditions have to be just right for it to happen...if you think I'm B/Sing you, wait until it gets cold out and lets go for a ride. You have to drive it right also, very seldom does she run over 2k RPM's, shift it on the back side of the torque curve, which is around 1300-1500 RPM's, not real sure the exact rpm.... I don't stomp my foot in it in-between gears, I ease into it. Keep the tires aired to the proper inflation pressure, keep the fuel filter and air filters changed, keep the overhead ran, high flow muffler. She's light and short for that engine, being a 2wd, keeps her lower to the ground so there is less wind resistance.

27 MPG??????? Are you serious? I would bet the farm that is what the computer showed at one moment going downhill with a tailwind rather than an average over a tank of fuel. That is not the same thing.

I got a feelin your 27mpg out of your dodge is about like my 21.9 out of my 1/2 ton chevy with 350. It require all highway miles, extreme patience, and an impedement to all other drivers on the road.

What else must one do to get this ever desirable 27mpg???????????
Chips?
Programs?
If I had a full size pickup that got 27mpg(gas or diesel) I wouldn't consider getting rid of it. Especially if it was paid for.

Just saying.......................

I have an 03 2500 4X4 4 door Duramax. It has 175,000 miles on it and it has been between 15 and 16 since day one. I once got 19 on a tank going down I-35 to San Antonio with a north wind behind me. Pulling I get around 13. I have friends with the same truck saying they get 20-21 on a regular basis. I guess I don't drive it right. hammer

Guys - check out the following site for a way to increase your mileage 15-20%. Send me a note if you have any questions. I have an 06 Dodge mega cab 4X4 and I pull a 22 foot Century 2202. Watch the videos, look at the test results. This is not simply a detergent or just an octane booster. It's a couple of bucks per tank...

I recommend the MPG CAPS and the Sulfrx for diesels. This sure beats the thousands you would spend on Chips, Breathers, and exhaust. You can also use MPG CAPS in your boat...
