just wondering how or if the red fish run was going? i know most of the fishermen near Galveston were not concerned with this petty subject. God bless you Galveston.

Posted: Sat Sep 20, 2008 9:34 am Post subject: Port A N. Jetty

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My son,Eric, and I camped three days on the N. Jetty and all I can say is it was insane with the reds in the corner of the jetty and beach. We caught a limit each day and released probably 40 or 50 more reds. Eric caught 5 oversize and I caught one. There were so many there I quit using my reg. rod, an ugly stick with an Okuma CD50, same for Eric, and started using my ultra light. Probably caught and released 10 or 15 including the 1 oversize on the ultralite. only 1 racoon spotted all weekend and 1 coyote. The final count for the 3 days was 18 reds,21" to 27 3/4", 1 trout 17", one black drum 21". Surf was dirty and full of grass but that's where the Redfish were. Never even made it out to the shark shack or the end of the jetty. very time I woould start out Eric would holler -- "Dad get the net!!!" What a week.. Will post pictures later today...

That is great to hear. Sounds like you guys had a great time. I was at Port A in the Surf Sat. & Sun. Caught a few undersized trout but no reds. Thanks for the info.

Just to be sure. You are referring to the Port A north Jetty? Right? Sounds like I need to get out there. Holy cow! did you get out on the jetty boat, or did you have your own boat?

I don't know if they would have been able to get to North Jetty on Boliver Island (sounds weird) by the 20th. It was closed. Can't tell if they were in a boat but I doubt it.

The report was about Port A N Jetty, not Galveston - (look at the post subject at the top of the copied report.

Bull Reds are running at POC Jetties. Cool weather from storm must have brought them in. Caught 30" myself. Saw others catch bigger. Limited out on slot reds in Hines bay near SeaDrift. Posted a report earlier.

We were at the end of the jetty in a 21ft Bayrunner. All three of us limited on reds Friday, saturday we had 5 of us, limited in about 2hrs. I boated my first Tarpon. Hell of a landing, the net ripped as we got it in. Hot action out there if you can handle it, the water was CHOPPY, wind was kicking up some big waves. The pilot boat wouldn't even head out straight of the channel, he took it off to the side.
