I read about this in Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine years ago.

It was about a nondescript fruit that grows on a big tree in south Texas....I think it's south Texas. Anyway, the fruit is "apple-like" but not much larger than a big lemon. It has no "taste" as such of it's own but is used with spices to make pies and jams and butters.

The fruit has no commercial value, you don't see it in grocery stores. People that pick and "put up" this fruit are ecstatic about it and have regular "canning sessions" when the fruit comes into season.

If anyone can find out the name of this fruit I would appreciate a "holler"! I looked on the net but came up with nothing...just don't know the right phrases to type or whatever.

Thanks!

Chuckwagon

No that's not it. This fruit grows on a deciduous tree of fairly good size....30 foot or so.

Found it! It was a Jujube fruit. A teacher friend hit on the name somehow.

Just one of those things that got my curiosity up and I had to find out the name!
