"We saw your reports on TFF, I have not kayak fished before but we want to book a striper trip with you on the Brazos and find out what it's all about".
I smiled to myself, recalling the first conversation with my client as I headed to the Upper Brazos, to meet up with Ron and Rick from Granbury, Tx. Both are accomplished bass and striper powerboat anglers. However, today we would be looking for a Personal Best striper for each of them on our Kayakfishing Adventure.
We meet at the launch and go over our gameplan while I get the guys aquainted with their kayaks and safety gear. Soon, we wrap up our impromptu paddling class and head out.
Mother Nature gives us a beautiful Brazos Basin sunrise to get started -
I gather a few choice baits and proceed to get Ron and Rick set up to bump troll our liveys and see if we can raise the days first striper.
Here is Rick " bumping along" in the Scrambler -
However, it would be Ron to hook up first from the Heritage. After a brief tussle with a fish that ate a bait almost half it's length, Ron has his first striper from a kayak -
After a few more drifts with no results, we head up river for a little tailrace action.
We paddle to our spot, set up and put out a fresh spread of balloon drifted and freelined liveys. Soon, one of the freelined baits gets blasted while in Ron's hands, and now he is off to the races with a solid fish that feels to him, like a possible Personal Best.
After a valiant fight, our suspicions are confirmed as I lip what does indeed turn out to be a Personal Best striper. Conratulations Ron !!!
Now, Rick decides to get in on the action and makes us "green" with envy by hooking up with this solid CPR'd LMB -
In the spirit of "one-upsmanship" , Ron gives us a quick reminder of what we came for by hooking up with another quality striper that we quickly CPR after a noble fight -
We get a couple more blow ups on the big baits on freelines, with no hookups. Now it appears we have drawn the attention of a few stripers who's appetites are writing checks their mouths can't cash. However, our persistance pays off and Rick's oversize bait eventually draws the attention of a bigger fish that crushes it and promptly begins doing "Le Freak" -
It's not long and Rick has his hands on what would also be a Personal Best striper for him as well. Congratulations, Rick!!!! -
We re-deploy another big bait on a balloon rig and it does not make it half way to the dam and it gets blasted. Now it's Ron's turn again and he winds tight to another "Brazos Brawler" we CPR -
Here is another shot of Rick with a CPR'd striper -
Hey, wait a minute!!! Where is the other half of my Channel Cat? LOL

I can't say enough about what a pleasure it was fishing with Ron and Rick. I sure was proud of these two and how they took to kayaking like a duck does water. More important was the fact they came away with some great experience and each got the Personal Best they came for........... and then some .
I think the kayak fishing community may have two new Converts
