you got a mutt there...no doubt about it...nice bass though, all of them.
They look really ugly from the stained water of the Guadalupe River when they are closer to being all smallmouth. Just a brown fish with little color (tooth patch though).

Danged if I know, the third pic looks like it's got the vertical bars and spots on the belly. Looks like your right about the smallies. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/bkbass_diagrams.phtml

look at the row of spots below the lateral line on the top fish.
that is definitely a characteristic of guadalupe bass (and/or spotted bass). The vertical bars verify that the fish has some smallmouth genes as well.
What lake are those out of? Canyon?

Definitely some smallmouth influence on that first bass, but the lines along the belly are consistent with guadalupe or spotted bass. I read somewhere that stocking of smallmouth bass has ceased in all areas that had guadalupe bass originally and that only pure Guadalupe bass are being stocked instead to stop the crossing of the two..

Probably a Guad/Smallmouth hybrid. True Smallmouth tend to be a lot more bronze then that.

Probably not. That's a largemouth/smallmouth hybrid, and I think this is a smallmouth/guadalupe.

I am going to have to go with small mouth hybrid, due to the bars on the belly. One way that I can usually tell, besides the looking in the mouth is by the fight that they put out. From my experiences SMB give 2 to 3 times the fight that hybrids or LMB do. That is just from my experience.

The best way to distinguish between the 3 types (largemouth, smallmouth, and guadalupe), is where the jaw crease is in relation to the eye when the mouth is closed. Smallmouth will be in front of the eye, largemouth well behind the eye, and Guadalupe will be in direct line with the eye. However, since I have caught both smallmouth and Guadalupe, I would say this looks a lot more like a Guadalupe. Even though it does appear to have the distinct smallmouth barring, Guadalupe spots can vary greatly and look a lot like barring.

Probably not. That's a largemouth/smallmouth hybrid, and I think this is a smallmouth/guadalupe. It is true that the original Meanmouth was a Largemouth/Smallmouth hybrid. This was the result of crossing them in a laboratory. However the meanmouth has since been found in public waters as a Spotted/Smallmouth hybrid. Even though it is not the original, it has also earned the Meanmouth tag over time. Today, most consider a Smallmouth crossed with any other Black Bass as a Meanmouth Bass. This one looks like a Meanmouth to me. Very rare. I would call TPWD and email them the pics. They may be very much interested in this catch. Let us know what they say.
