So, I'm up here in Cape Cod vacationing. The fishing bug has been biting me pretty hard so I went and bought a cheapo Shimano surf fishing combo and some Crippled Herring "spoons" and went to try my luck. Yesterday the winds were coming off the ocean at about 20mph so it wasn't gonna happen. Got up early this morning went to a different location and after about an hour I finally caught a saltwater fish! My first ever!

It was a small Bluefish. It wasn't more than 10", but it was really cool to finally catch something out of the ocean!

Before I return I'm going to try for some of these monster Stripers they have up here. State record is 73lbs and 50lb fish aren't uncommon. Of course I won't be catching anything like that from the shore, but one can dream!

So you live in Texas and your first saltwater fishing trip was in Cape Cod? hmmm
You've gotta take a little vacation down to the gulf.

Yeah, I've only been in Texas for two years and haven't made it down there yet, but it is definitely on my list!

After chucking a 4oz spoon all day and then retrieving it I am going to go the "lazy man's" route tomorrow and use some cut bait that I can zing out there and let it sit...

My arms feel as if they are going to fall off...man I'm out of shape!

I caught my first saltwater fish like 4 years ago when I was 8. It was an eel and I didn't know how to get the hook out of its mouth and it turned its self into a knot. A guy came over to help me and we tried to untangle it but it was tied up to good. We ended up cutting off the fishes head and dropped the boddy into the water. A few minutes later my dad caught a small shark probably attracked to the blood. Since then I have caught like 100+ saltwater fishes.

I've caught some bluefish out of Galveston and Surfside. More of them up there, though! There are some stripers down here as well. They are more of a winter fish, often caught in Trinity Bay.
They are better fighters than trout, similar to redfish. We get a lot of big redfish and they can be lots of fun.
