things I learned today.... poling a bass boat can be done...the carp gagger is my favorite carp fly when they swim over 2' even though you made a bad cast to eat it its a good fly...always put sun screen on the back of your legs....I am a better angler and fly fisher then LHD, don't let him tell you that the second fish I couldn't see and he told me where to cast...I saw it on my 3rd shot at it...

seriously if you are wanting to learn the "art" of chasing carp on the fly hire Dave for a day....I am the worlds worst fly fisherman...I can not cast, I can not see fish and I can not walk quietly across a flat...yet I am 3 for 3 going out with Dave.....He never advertises it so here...http://www.trashonthefly.com

I have been a serious carp angler for 8 years...traditional European style bank fishing...but its not with a fly rod except for the last 3 months...this is the most fun I have had fishing in many years...

Fly fishing is very exciting when you have a fish on. I like it more. If I am visiting with a friend, I prefer conventional fishing. I have not used my tackle and conventional gear most of the summer. (but then again I have not fished much this summer-but fall is almost here, and that will change)

i'll try to remember to put up pics of fish later. we tried to get an underwater one but the fish kept swimming out of our hands!

the fly really is a no-name but we started to jokingly call it the carp gagger yesterday. maybe i'll tie one or two up and post later.

what zach didn't tell you is when we parked the boat on the first flat we spooked a bunch of carp out. he got excited so he went and fished while i tied a leader for my rod and put on sunscreen and got a camera and flybox and tippet out of my boat bag. from the time he left the boat until he hooked one, played it, landed it, and walked back to the boat was 18 minutes!

well, surely with a start like that it's gonna be a banner day, right? it took over one hour for us to even SEE one more carp. then a large, thin white cloud hung over the sun for the next few hours. the cloud wouldn't move because there was basically no breeze.

so we had a good start then a rough middle and at the end we poled over a bunch of fish but it happened so quick we didn't stick any.

Put it on your inner thighs too if you wear shorts. Hurtin something else today.

Yah sunscreen is important, especially on the inner sides of your lower thigh all the way down to your toes, when kayaking. OUCH!!!! Im in pain today.
