I have a 12/24volt trolling motor on my boat now. I bought a new trolling motor because mine is so old and I've had it in the shopgetting fixed again. My problem when I called basspro about a 71pd trolling motor and I needed a 12/24 volt motor and of course they had one in stock. When I get home the motor is a 24volt motor, so I call basspro and talk to one of the guys about my trolling motor and hr say's they do"nt make 12/24 volt trolling motors no moreand i'd have toget my boat rewired for the new motor. I'd like to know if anyone has had this problem and what they did? Also what does motorguide think there doing? Im sure there's alot of us that still have 12/24volt motors. I would appreciate any help on this, thanks for your time. LWC>
I think you will be glad to have the straight 24v. There aren't as many switches and wires to give you trouble. I have around 7000 hours on my 24v and it runs like the day I bought it.
Pro angler. Didyou have to rewire your boat for a 24voltsystem? and if so who did you get to do it for you, AND HOW EXPENCIVE WAS IT ROUGHLY? THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.LWC.
If your boat was set up for 12/24 you should not need to rewire.Just find the neg. post and the 24v pos. post on your connector and hook them up accordingly. If you have a 12/24 switch on the bow panel make shure it is in the 24 position when in use. If you want to run new wire, it only takes 2 from the batteries to the bow connection and the wire can be obtained from lowe's or home depot. not that hard a job.
here is how the wires on the batteries will be.if you have four wires going to front just double them together(two red--two black) and get a jumper wire. At the panel, some plugs use a jumper inside the plug. you can use a light and find which side is 24v and wire your TM plug to match..

Pro Angler, do you have to change your plug in wires also? My directions do'esnt say nothing about the plug in wires. Thanks again for your help. I hope i can repay you someday. LWC
I have to jump in here too. I am about to go to a 24 volt TM. However on my boat I have 2 pairs of black and red TM wires running from the fron to the rear. Up front the 2 sets of wires run to a bus then back to the batt compartment. So should I just connect the 1 set of black and red wires to one battery and the other set to the second battery? Am I getting true 24 volts to the TM?

You don't need to rewire anything you already have 24v at the front. Four wire systems use the plug to jump the batteries and make 24v. Hook them up red and black on each battery.
