There are lots of fish in the river and the flow is great. Its too bad we didn't have a super day. Not really any fish we caught did I really want to take a pic of. The fishing got super slow to allmost nothing between twelve and seven. Its just too hot I guess violin
Oh yeah you carpers, I did find the ultimate carp spot please come catch them. Contantly had six or seven big ones just going at it at every minitue of the day never stopping....

Yah the fishing wasnt great. There were no trophys taken but the day was well spent kayaking the river. Had it not been for derik letting me occasionally hold on to his trolling motor powered poonton boat I would be in bad shape today. That river flows. hehe

The one thing I do regret is not taking more pics and not putting on sunscreen to start with. My legs are somewhere between extra crispy and flambroiled.

I did take some pics of some fish on my phone Ill post them but once again you will remember rb240,wd40,wd240 as the guy who cant take a clear picture.

Man I wished I lived closer to you guys, I'd sure try to catch those carp for ya...lol. What did they seem particularly interested in? Woolly buggers, Guadalupe Greens, or what??

They were eating something off the top of the water. We couldnt tell if it was the new hatch that was on that day or if they were eating some floaating seeds. We didnt try to hard though.

I think he means they didn't see from where they were, maybe afraid they would spook the fish. So they didn't push it, by coming closer to see. Then he guessed as to what they were sipping off the top. Either a new hatch, or some type of floating seed.

lol, that still is no excuse to NOT cast to fish feeding on the surface. I thought the point of fishing was to try and catch fish?

You would have to ask him that one. I imagine they tried to throw a few to see if it was a certain hatch. I doubt if they had seed flies. I am planning to make an elm seed fly for carp soon. I don't know what other types of seed fish eat.

That sounds awesome for spring time. Mulberry flies work well, cottonwood seed flys also kill for surface feeding fish. If you come upon a marina with carp eating bread nothing beats a foam bread fly although that is considered cheating by some. Most carp are going to be feeding off the bottom though

I thought of cottonwood seed, but didn't know if it would work. I did not think of mulberry, as I have never seen one I guess. As far as bread flies go...I have tried to make a couple. One came out real good with Gorilla Glue. I just left it white, with no color extra. I also made a couple of grass carp flies. I tried to make a Sucker Punch, but I did not have the right materials, I copied it as much as I could, with what I had. I wonder if they eat River Birch seeds too. If so, I could try to make that. Where I live there are tons of them, and some lakes around here have Bald Cypress. That is another seed to consider. Although I have no idea if they would eat a cone type seed like that. Hopefully somebody on here will know more than I, about this!

I hate to admit it but all the other fishing was so slow that I casted to them with the only white dry i had on me for about 20 minutes.

I dont mind admitting to casting to these fish. I threw a glow egg and a white dry fly. No luck. I did stay in this area and cast to them for a while as it was the only place I wasnt fighting tough currents. Then i noticed two 8 pound bass below my kayak that looked up at me with this "dont even try it look". Shortly after that I was back on my excursion for bass.

Yeah, cause fishing is all about the way the fish smell, look, and feel. It's not about the excitement catching a powerful, hard fighting fish...

And fly-fishing is especially all about catching fish that look, smell, and feel good...that's why trout are so "popular"....Fly-fishing's never about the thrill of tricking one of the wariest, and hardest fighting fish in fresh water into sucking down your fly for that one instant, right before it torpedoes away from you and strips you down to your backing so fast you start to wonder if you've got enough...

Hehehe. Just messin' with you man.

Sounds like a fun trip either way!
