I have a 2003 merc xr6 150. I have been having a problem with a warning buzzer going off but not all the way. It sounds like a loose connection. It happens when I am going down the lake. I took it to the shop in march and of course they could not make it do it. After I got it from shop it would do it when I pushed the trim button either up or down. Also after I got it from the shop it quit doing it going down the lake but it started back up labor day. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this problem.

Check the small oil res, under the cowling. The oil leve must be as full as you can get it. If it's down 1/2" that's just enough for the sensor to light up the horn, The next wave you hit, the horn goes off. That is why trimming the engine will send it off and on according to the angle it's at. Easy fix. Remove cowling, Start engine on water jacket, Let idle, slowly begin to remove cap on small res, (the one just infront of the flywheel) Watch oil level rise, just before spilling, tighten cap. OR REMOVE SMALL CAP,FILL RES. BY HAND UNTIL FULL, REPLACE AND TIGHTEN CAP............ Words of caution. BE very careful when tightening cap, they love to crack and spew oil everywhere.

Make shure the main oil tank caps are clean and tight also. Had a Merc doing this a couple weeks ago and found fill cap was not sealing buy spraying with soap & water while outboard was running. Go ahead and clean the pickup screen while your their. Good Luck
