That would be MRSA. I hope it's not MRSA too. I have met folks who are being treated with radiation for it, as a last resort.

Maggots are used in in soft tissues that won't heal, and started being used when antibiotics promoted the occurrence of resistant bacteria. Available in the US by prescription only.

Well I am sorry sir, I apologize sincerely. I assumed it was some angry remark to my post but I see it is an actual medical therapy. Funny how we get preconceived ideas about each others comments or maybe it's sad rather than funny. Not sure which. Either way I apologize.

maggots only eat the dead flesh and will clean out a wound better and cleaner that humans can.

I, too, hope it is not MRSA. A friend's mother was infected with MRSA when she received a pacemaker. Of course with it infecting the heart tissue there was no hope.

Maggots are used and it is a bonafide procedure for cleaning out infected tissue in certain areas. I just don't think I could handle letting the varmits feed off my tissue. *shudder*

We used to use maggots when we de-horned our steers. We would sear the flesh and turn them loose for the flies to get to them. In about a week we would pour hydrogen peroxide all over it and voilla....clean as a whistle.

Wrong treatment for MRSA although it could work at debridement of the wound ... if the bacteria stopped eating.

This (http://www.the-thieves-oil.com/) might be a better alternative therapy!

Right now the treatment is generally treatment with the antibiotic Vancomycin.

45% of the general population are carriers for the Methicillin Resistant strain of Staphlococcus Aureus (MRSA). It becomes opportunistic if the body's defenses get weakened somehow. It is getting more virulent though as are most bacterias with societal misuse of antibiotics.

Antibiotics are a form of selection pressure. Ditto for insecticides or herbicides. It drives organisms down certain pathways.

Don't be hung up on the term "unnatural". Antibiotics, insecticides, herbicides all kill organisms, but some are naturally resistant. Who is left to survive and reproduce?

Ditto for killing organisms and reducing their numbers, things like bald eagles, black-footed ferrets, cheetahs, etc. You create a genetic bottleneck which will affect allele frequencies and future generations.

My reply to grandpa was not perverted. I thought it inappropriate for someone to ask how the infection was gotten. That should be up to Wendi to discuss and not one of us prying souls. Maybe Wendi was wanting some advice or empathy from those on the OT who have had staph infections that's all I meant. Could I have stated it more appropriately - probably - but grandpa could have taken a better route as well.

The thread went off course and I'm sorry if I had anything to do with that, Wendi. But I don't think I did.

WOW... just WOW... lol I never expected for it to come down to the buffalo farts... lmfao... I was exposed last week one of my friends was over with their kids, the the very next night had to take one of them to the hospital for a staph infection, but he's recovering great. I'm sure that's most likely where I contracted it. I'm pretty sure it's not MRSA, I've only been on the Bactrim 24 hours and things are already looking a lot better. And I don't mind the hijack I've done it enough myself grin

Men are like parking spaces, all the good ones are taken; the only ones left are handicapped.
