they make an offset hitch for short beds so you dont have to worry about it.

I pull a fifth wheel with a short bed. I opted for the slide mount. I haven't had to use it yet but have been very close to having to. It will let the hitch slide back a foot to a foot and a half. Then you get out of trouble and let it back to the normal spot. It was a bit pricey but I decided it just might be worth it some day.

I agree Dayne. I just bought a fifth wheel last week. I am having the Slider hitch installed on my truck(96 f-250 short bed) next Friday. I did a lot of research and asked tons of people on rv.net. The Slider seems to cure all of your worries with a short bed Gullchaser. www.rv.net has been just a big of help to me for my rving needs as the TFF and fishing.

I have a 2003 GMC 2500hd duramax with a short bed and I haul a 37 foot Sandpiper using a Husky 16k slider hitch. Every time I hook up to my 5th wheel I have to have the hitch slid back. It takes just a second to hop out and pull the lever and you can safely turn the rig around super tight without the worry of crunching in the cab. Once I get it out of the driveway I slide the whole thing forward and off I go.
