The fishing has been pretty good the past 2 weeks and hotter than you know. We are still catching fish in the 6 to 8 lb range on soft plastics in and around the edges of the grass beds all over the lake. Texas rigs, Carolina rigs and even swim baits are catching their fair share of bass.

Sorry I did not see this post earlier as I was too busy passing a kidney stone. Fishing is good with a lot of fish being caught in the 4 to 5 lb range. They are coming off the outside edges of the abundant grass beds all over the lake. There is grass in places and creeks that have not been there in 4 yrs. This is due to the low lake level without a doubt. You can catch fish on traps, c-rigs, shallow cranks, etc. Top water is getting a few good bites early and late.

Last time I went to Coleto, about a month ago, it seemed like they had poisoned the grass. I usually love fishing coleto but was very disapointed that they had did this. It seemed to really turn off the fishing, as Coleto is a GRASS lake!
It was a very calm day, but the usually clear waters were murkey due to dead grass particles. Again, very diappointed!
Only managed dinkers that day, and cut the trip off early deciding not to come back untill the grass had rebounded.
Are you saying that things are better? I sure hope so because I love fishing that lake. Its like a little Choke Canyon in my mind!

MeSkeeter you weren`t at this Coleto Creek because the grass has been thick all over the lake for over 6 months and in places it has not been for years. The lake has not been sprayed this year and is in great shape with many big fish being caught weekly. Also you can catch fish off timber(by itself), Grass, Rocks, etc. and all produce large fish on any given day.

Like hell I wasnt!! I live 30 minutes from Coleto and fish it all the time. Last time I went was a month ago and the grass was brown as heck and looked like it had just been poisoned. Both people in my boat thought so too.
It was a super calm day and the water should have been very clear but it was cloudy from all the dead plant particles, you could plainly see it.
Like I said, I fish Coleto creek about once a month and I have never seen the grass so brown or the water so nasty on a calm day. I dont know if they poisoned it for sure, but it sure seemed that way. I mentioned it to several others and they thought the same thing.
To narrow the timeFrame down for you, it was the weekend right after the hurricane had hit Houston. They had let a ton of water out of the lake in preperation for a flood that never came. Another stupid move!
Like I said, I love Coleto Creek and fish it at least once a month. Choke Canyon is always so crowded, and though it has bigger fish, I like to get away to the uncrowded Coleto often.
However, the last time I went the lake just looked nasty and the fishing was wacked out. I hope they did not poison the grass, but something happened to turn it so brown and make the water so cloudy that weekend. It made me not want to come back untill I heard differently. So, when I come out there this Sunday I better not see a bunch of brown grass and cloudy water like last time!

Good luck Jonny I guess you moved LOL!!!!!!!! This guy fishes Coleto everyday so I think he knows what's going on with the lake. MeSkeeter what are you going to do if you see brown grass and cloudy water? Did the lake turn over that is another reason for this every lake has a turn over time.

It is the fall. The people at Colleto cabins have always steered me right.Turn over is common about this time of year. By the way Colleto has some pretty big fish. As I have stated before with no response, MeSkeeter....how about a little friendly fish-off on Colleto!!

That might have been what it was. Also, Im not saying that the lakes grass is dead right now, just that it was the last time I was there which was about a month ago. Once again, I hope everything is back to normal because I love fishing Coleto Creek. It is close to my house and less crowded than Choke Canyon.
Grant, if the water is nasty and the grass brown Ill just hook my boat back up and drive to Choke Canyon or go back home and fish Mathis. Both of those lakes have bigger fish anyways, though they are not nearly as pretty as Coleto. I have to much fishing opportunity to mess around with dead water!!
Also, Robert! I think Ill have to pass on your "Fish Off". However, if you just want to meet up and go fishing that hit me up. I pretty much rotate between Choke, Mathis, Coleto, and Falcon. I know Choke and Mathis very well though!

Grant2 Did someone say Fish Off! I`m in for sure LOL.
Hey Shawn, Give me a call before you come down to practice or before the tourney and I can probably steer you in the right direction.
Had a great evening out with about 22 fish between 3 of us and from 2 to 5+ lbs. Did not see any dead grass and off colored water but I have not stopped looking.
Does everyone have a place to stay for ABA? If not give us a call.

I have a request that may be a bit difficult. I am going to be in Victoria over Christmas and would like to take a guide trip on Coleto for me and my brother-in law. Problem is it will have to be on Dec. 26 or 27. If anyone knows somebody I should contact please advise. I know it will be tough getting a day that close to Christmas. Thanks in advance.

I have not been on Coleto Creek for quite sometime. The fishing can be ok.
Warning!!!!!! I know your Stroker and 225 will fly, please be very careful on this lake, it is 4 foot low and it has stumps every where,,,,,,,,,,,,, You must shut down when you are going to leave the channel.... In some places towards the river past the bridge there are even stumps in the middle of the channel...
This is not a place to open that baby up on....
Good luck and enjoy the fishing....
I know a lot of folks that have bent shafts from this lake....

I did not even go because it was just too windy when I got up to go at 0300 on Sat. Stayed home and went to Galveston and took the wife and kids Flounder fishing. Hand a great day 4 limits and 5 over 6 lbs. Some huge ones off the USCG base.
