So I said in another post that I had to keep up with my fishing buddy Derik and his recent deer hair work. My body has been fighting a viral war but today I felt good enough to walk over to my newly stocked tying table. (stocked with some hair) This is my first streamer ever and not to mention my first time ever using hair!!! Its a ..... I think the streamer is a little long, how about you guys? I guess you dont really trim these things hugh. I am imagining the triming as cutting the hair from the base and tying in smaller sections that way you keep your wave tail, is this wright?

I agree with Robin. Just a little long, but otherwise it is very good, especially for your first streamer!!! Great job!!

If you are getting short strikes, you can take along a pair of scissors, and in the field cut it just a tad, and that will take care of it. I have made many flies just like it, and I know some of mine are too long, and probably too short too...too much bucktail, you name it. HEHEHE...but that is part of the learning process for all of us...it just takes a little time and experience, and I know I need more of that. I think you are doing tremendous work for just starting out!

I read a book that kinda addressed that...the author was in favor of tying streamers & bass bugs oversize...he carried scissors & cut trimmed them once on the water to suit the fishes taste...good work

The longer "tail" may attract larger fish. Like others have posted, if you get nothing but short strike then trim till you get hook-ups. I like the streamer BTW

Its too long if you only intend to catch dinks... but as deckhand said, it may attract bigger fish as it is. If you are going after LMBs with it, you'll rarely if ever get short strikes. With their big bucket mouths, they can easily inhale that, even the smaller bass. Other fish such as whites, crappie, etc, that may be the case.
