At sundown last Sunday on RH I was just about ready to pack it up when I was hailed by a couple guys on a disabled skiboat that had lost all electrical power. Naturally I towed 'em in.

Looked it up later - apparently a towing boat should have two white lights plus a yellow stern light, and of course the towed boat should have the usual lights or, alternatively a white at the bow & stern. I don't have the extra lights and they were completely dark.

I'm wondering, if the warden or a local PD lake patrol stops us, do you think they'd write me up? What about the other boat? Would they take over towing?

Any opinions or actual experience with that situation?

Probably not, by law you are required to offer assistance if hailed by another craft. The assistance could be a simple as calling for another boat to tow them, or as you did, tow them yourself.

This would apply more to a commerical operation (paid on water tow service) rather than an emergency assistance tow.
