If the details can be worked out I would like to particate.

Got a question Dennis. I remember seeing several kayakers while I was there. That seems like a fairly safe way to get around the lake. The question of float tubes and if they would be at all advisable on Caddo came to mind. There are a alot of folks who like to float tube fish. Would the gator situation be a point to consider? Are there areas of the lake where a float tube would be safe? State Park perhaps?

I've see a few kayaks in the river near Johnsons' and they seem to get along ok. But the way those boats run at high speed up and down the river, I worried about those yaks being turned over by the boats' wakes. I would definitely not use a float tube on Caddo because of that very thing, the high speed boats - they might not see you in the water, hit you, and then you'd be gator bait. Float tubing could be very dangerous on Caddo. The gators would be the least of your problems in a tube.

thanks Cliff

I wonder what it's like up in the State Park? We drove by there, by land as well as "by sea" but never made it up in there. Its a no wake zone outside, would it be OK in there you think? Grandpa and some others are pontooners. If they stayed inside would that be OK?

There is one place down in the mid lake area that could work very well, it Collier Landing,it in the Buzz Bay area and you have very little boat traffic. There not much around there like store, place to stay and a place to eat.
The State park has the no wake zone and that area off the river that go back in to the park area.
In the spring tine Crips Camp area could work also, we have place to stay and place to eat there.

I was in the state park area previously with a canoe. It was fine to use, as there was no boat traffic in the park area by the state park pier. Now once you got out in the canal, that was different...boats zoomed by us, we were okay, but still you think they would of made a wide berth around us...not. I cannot imagine if the thing overturned on me out there and it would be near impossible to turn it back up again and load back in it. My son did most of the paddling when we went, as he is in much better shape than his old mama...but we wouldn't together be able to right the canoe, or yak.......if we got turned over, unless we were in very shallow water.

I wonder how mothershipping would work out with tubes, pontoons or kayaks? Big boat tows yaks out and paddlers board to paddle about in the area. or get in tubes.

Kelly could stand gator watch in a float tube at the edge and holler out when she saw one coming laugh

I did a Google Map zoom-in on Caddo State Park. Looks like its a sort of lagoon with loads of cypress trees. That would make for some really good tossing at trees would it not Dennis?

I tried tossing at trees there, and didn't get squat. But it was pretty hot that day. There are loads of vegetation in that area, and I know fish are in there. That is where I caught some sunfish before on the fly rod. But the bass were not cooperative. Lots of loud frogs over there too. Beautiful place!!

If I was gonna fish Caddo I would launch at Johnson's ranch and fish all those lily pads out in front of it. But it's be 3 years since I fished there

I went to Crip's Camp and wanted to rent a canoe, he wasn't there. We ended up getting a canoe from the state park instead. I can't afford the 75 bucks for boat rental though. I planned to do that for my son's partial birthday present...but the owner was away, it was a slow day that day. Anyway, I guess you will have to call first to make sure you can rent something for that day, is what I am trying to say.

I was there before. I waited around for him to come back, and finally gave up. He has a phone number on that sign once you are there. You can hear it ring all the way outside when you call. If you are gonna rent a canoe, the ones at the state park look a little better. They are probably more expensive for a full day.

I just looked at that Google satellite image again. If that is what I think that is, then there is a huge area across from Crip's that is tight with trees and cover. That might be fantastic fishing once all the lily pads die off. Is that accurate Dennis?

I believe that more and more folks are getting interested in a Caddo springtime trip.

FlyFish Texas is a great big old little event that I've been going to for many years now.

Everyone who can is urged to attend. Perhaps we can even sit down at Bean & Burger afterwards to plan out the Caddo trip.

pearow, I hope that you and Henry can get involved. Y'all are a couple of Caddo old hands as well as snappy dressers!
